All of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate's online content can be played offline, no need to worry 3DS players!

Still mildly frustrating. One of the things that makes Monster Hunter so fun is working as a team. The vast majority of time I spent on Tri was in multiplayer.

So there's no online functionality at all for the 3DS version?

You get all the downloadable quests I'm pretty sure but that's about it.

There's local multiplayer for 3DS players.

It's out in NA too. DLing right now~.

So.

The demo only has 2 monsters to fight, a big rabbit thing (Lagsomething) and Plesioth, in the Tundra and Deserted Island maps from Tri. You get to choose a premade set for each weapon, as expected. Nothing terribly interesting.

The WiiU gamepad is pretty awful to play with, so you definitely want to get a controller. You can play with the CC Pro, so that's good.

Graphics are preeetty nice compared to Tri, but that's not saying much I guess.

I'm not sure how much I want the game now. With the 3DS players unable to get online, and the WiiU being fairly new, I don't know how many people I'll have/want to play with. (None of my close friends have WiiU.) There'll be more content than Tri, but no doubt much of that content will be paletteswaps, aside from new monsters.

So, mixed feelings, atm.

Paletteswaps? Um, no. That's not true at all.

Let's see I count around 18 recolors, of which 12 are new to the states with the remaining 7 being recolors that appeared previously in the series but not in Tri, and 2 of those 12 are of new monsters. There are 9 new large monsters, along with 2 that have returned from previous games after an absence in Tri. There are then 2 new common monsters along with the return of the Bullfangos.

The official statistics show that my count is a little off, though I can't quite figure out what I'm missing despite multiple recounts.

Should I start listing the gameplay changes too or were we only referring to the monsters?

Monster Hunter sure is expanding fast. Back then, Kirin is counted as an elder dragon because it doesn't fit in with the wyverns. Now we have mammals and dragons.

Oh also Japan just got a Patch for 3 Ultimate's 3DS version that lets it play online. But it needs a WiiU and a WiiU LAN adapter which makes it kinda moot since both versions are coming out in the West at the same time.

I just played the demo and loved it. The Lagombi is a big fuzzy bunny and a great punching bag for trying new weapons. I got the Plesioth to limping at like 19 minutes, but couldn't deal enough damage to kill it before 20. I'll have to try that again.

SnS is solid as always. I really enjoy my mobility and utility. I tried Double Swords for the first time and was really impressed. They're fun and deal a fuckton of damage. I'm still cautious cause I've heard they're bad due to their all-offensive nature in a defensive game, but I'll see if I can make them work once we get the full game.

Demo was awesome. Lagombi is super easy though and I'm not sure if it was just me but the Plesioth AI seems bugged. It just sat there and let me slash at it sometimes. Loving the Dual Swords too, it's nice to be able to deal loads of damage but you have to remember to dodge.
