I use SnS exclusively. When I finally beat Diablos it was actually using the sleep SnS (Hypnos Knife?). Put him to sleep, pile a bunch of big bombs around his face, throw stone, repeat. You can do it about three times during the fight. Also nice because it breaks his horns when I otherwise can't reach his head.

Obviously that works better solo, though. Sleep's a bit less useful with teammates around. :P

So, I splurged a bit and bought a router. In the event that you're online with nothing to do and feel like laughing at a low-rank newb, hit up the player search and see if Tango is on. I may be in a "solo play" city, but that's mostly to try and keep out the undesirables that I hear about.

Disregard. I'm not sure if you can search for players across servers or not.

I almost always switch out my GS for SnS on Barioth as well. Fire SnS [Djinn] absolutely tears him up, I find. Paralyze is always great in a party, especially if someone has a hammer, but I don't know if I'd want to use it solo.

Barioth is also one of the monsters whose parts you want to break whether you need the drops or not. Breaking his wings will cause him to stagger every single time he uses certain attacks, even in rage mode, which results in huge openings to hit him. His tail also has quite a reach and can be tough to avoid, so I usually take that off once a wing is broken. Once you've got that done, he becomes so much easier to handle.

Diablos on the other hand.. Baaah. I can't GS or SnS Diablos with much success, so I usually try to gun it. That, or rely on lancers to do the work because I'm useleeess.

Well, it's been a while since I've tried Diablos in Tri, so who knows, maybe I'll do better these days. : D (I won't.)

If we can get a group together for it on Monday I think I still have a quest for him. I also need to cap a Lagi.

I may be posting too much, but...

My first time fighting Barroth, it took nearly the full 50 minutes and he didn't even start limping yet. My second try, I got carted within thirty seconds.

That feel when your first kill is fifteen minutes in. Granted, it did take me a full load of small/large barrel bombs and the +  versions of each, but it still feels awesome. I even forgot to have a wholesome and filling dinner beforehand.

I just bought this today. A few of my friends are huge monster hunter nerds and it was just $10 used. I'm pretty excited.

Who has access to three star quests (or almost has access) and will be available today after... Say 1pm? Like to see if we can get a group going and knowing when said group can get together will help me plan when to do my chores today.

Unfortunately, EU/US shenanigans.

If it weren't for that, I'd easily be able to help with anything you guys are at - HR 42 over here.

EDIT: I'd like to point out that I'm not skilled enough to be carrying anybody. Despite the fact that I was using one of the weaker HR GSs with Crit Draw, it took me about 7 minutes to kill a  LR Great Jaggi.

On average, that's one minute /per hit/.

Man, the early grind in these games is not fun. I want to actually hunt monsters, not collect mushrooms.

The online grind is -very- short.  You don't even have to do the mushroom quests I don't think!

Dear god the Lagiacrus

It killed me in two hits, then followed me when I tried to complete the quest in another area and did it again

The grind still exists later on; it just changes form. You start going "Just ooooooooone more horn, I've killed 20 of you so far, and I just ooooone more...

Or worse, trying to get dozens of scatterfish so you can drop Barrel Bomb L+s like candy against Ala.
