Well, I'm less concerned with getting plates as I am with actually killing the thing. I've done it once, and I only need one more shell or whatever to make the Rath LS.
I had hurt it enough so that it fled to area 6 (I'm fighting it in the volcano region) at 00:11 left. Infinite rage.
What's worse is that I didn't even get ONE spirit combo off. If I had, and I was close too, he would have fled much sooner because of the increased damage after a spirit combo.

Dragon element GS will kill a rathalos and give you enough time to do three laps around the map.

I swear by the Ancient GS, but damn. WHY NU PL8TE RATHALOSE?

I stopped playing because grinding for that plate for days on end made me RAEG.
1) take quest,
2) cut tail off
3) l00tZ
4) end quest
5) l00tZ
6) no ??? here
7) RAEGGGGARGHLBARGL
8 ) rinse and repeat

Only now, for me, it's Y GROBL NO LNATREN+ N WHYBRN ST0N?

Same here. There's a reason I ended up giving on the Gobul. He's annoying unless you just fish him out and smash him with a bunch of endgame weapons. Ugh.

And Taz, already working on the gimmicky sets. I tried making an anti-Rathian/Rathalos lancer set with steel armor, guard +2, and Wind Res (Lo). It was pretty worthless. Guard +2 isn't really needed for either wyvern, Wind Res (Lo) only blocks the floating air currents, but it doesn't stop the air currents from taking off and landing, and I also had Speed Sharpener, which is pretty much useless when your lance never really needs to be sharpened.

Next up is Rathalos+ with Mind's Eye so I can put the badass Uragaan GS to some good use. I've got a Potential +7 LastingPwr +10 charm, so I'll probably end up hopefully gemming in Potential +2 (Rathalos+ has a lot of slots, I thought) and going for the highest attack I can muster. Fun times ahead. Or not. Depends on how lazy I am. And whether Rathalos decides to cough up a ruby and Rathian decides to cough up some spikes.

HAHAHA!  I necro you, vile thread, from the abyss of-

Meh, writing takes too much effort.  MH3 is like $10 now.  I have a Wii and this looks fun.  Anyone want to dust off their copy and watch me die a horrible death?

I always knew there had to be some other Bay12 monster hunters around. Just wish I had been a part of this forum when I was pouring every last minute of free time (and then some) I had into that game.

Busy right now, but I'd be down to fit a little monster ass kicking session into my schedule, if anyone decides to organize such a thing. I'll just have to pray that I have the will to pull myself away when it ends.

My birthday is coming up, so I'll have some extra cash and might splurge on a $10 used game.  I know there's other dwarves who are still into this for sure, it's just a matter of finding them!

A lot of rage about loot.  I don't care much about loot.  I just want to group up and go fight some giant enemy crabs.

Speaking of the classic controller, how do you open chat when using one?

I do have the classic controller needed to play most of the N64 games via the store-thing.

With your USB keyboard.

That is also something I'd consider a necessity.

I presume that that would require an extension cord or something unless it's wireless?

Any of you guys have Wii Speak?

Alright, got the game.  Got a little progress made, ready to dive headfirst into bloodshed now!

Also am I right that you have no skills?  The entire game is equipment-based?
