Speaking of lucky drops, in MH1 I got two light crystals from my first Gypceros.

Without breaking its headnobble thing.

Hell yeah.

Been reading the thread, and this sounds fun. Is playing it fully offline doable? I have a fairly crappy net connection. And can I use a gamecube controller, or should I grab the classic controller?

If you buy the box set It somes with a controller. I got mine for around ~$50 which came ith game/controller. And yes, you can play fully offline, but you will not ba able to see a lot of content that the game has. For example, the Jhen Mohran can only be found in online mode, high rank monsters are only in online mode.

But, yes, you can have a lot of fun even with no online connection.

If you're wanting to only play offline get a psp and Monster Hunter: Freedom Unite

Much more content, and all the higher ranks are available.
I have 110 hours on the thing and have yet to break into the final tier'd monsters.

Hoooookay, I'll have a looksie around at prices. As for the PSP, seems a bit of a waste to buy it just for this one game.

I bought my PSP specifically for MHFU, and now I use it for music, movies and as a GBA/PS1 emulator.

It's been worth it simply for MHFU -- at least for me.

I picked up a modded PSP off a friend for pretty cheap and I've put 500-600 hours into MHFU since.

It's worth it.

Okay, I've found MH3+controller for like £40, and a PSP and MHFU (I keep reading that as Monster Hunter Fuck You) for £60. Oh man.

From what I've read so far, this does seem like a rage inducing game. Desire sensor and all that.

Yes, there will be some times when you will want to yell "BULLSHIT" at the top of your lungs.

An example would be having full health, having a Khezu in rage mode scream, stunning you, then proceeding to hit you with a lightning ball, finishing you off with a jumping electric attack.

You'll learn how to avoid such instances as you progress, however.

Vicious cycle- Get better armor (Rathalos) to farm HR to get equipment to get better armor (Rathalos).

Welcome to Monster Hunter.  I discovered this cycle immediately after finishing my Cephalos Armor in Monster Hunter 1.  A few days later I quit.  Treadmills are only fun online.
