These people didn't even have Evasion +2, if I'm not mistaken. They just waltzed (lancers can't really run all that well. :P) right up to the Rathian's face and tried stabbing it with a paralyze lance. I might be mistaken, though. I didn't take too close a look at their armor, but I'm pretty sure it didn't have evasion +2. The lance-user might have been that dude who had like random armor pieces that didn't fit with each other, some high rank, some low rank. And yeah, evade makes me cocky as a rooster, although I haven't tried it with lance... I should try that sometime, although I figure I'd want high-rank Barioth armor, now that I can actually fight high-rank Barioth. Actually, I don't know how you can be cocky with a lance. It's so slow that the monster is wayyy across the area before I can jab it in the face and the dash attack makes you incredibly vulnerable for like three or four critical seconds.

Although, I might just upgrade my low-rank Barioth... It'd be much much easier, plus I can solo the high-rank Great Baggi decently anyway. I actually probably just need one Amber Tusk+ and then I'm set, for the most part. Hopefully, I can fight the Barioth and the Great Baggi once more each and I'll have enough.

If it's too far, you just sheathe and run over there. If it's still too risky to sheathe, block. If you can't block, evade. If you can't evade, then block. If you don't have stamina for some reason, well...

I'm guessing you use SnS, so that's probably why it feels so sluggish.

The cockiness with lance comes because you can almost attack all the time, it attacks fast, you do good damage because you're always attacking, you're always attacking because your dodge sets you up in position well, you can dodge several times in a row, you can break stuff and you can cut stuff, you have good range, and it's hard to hit teammates.

Yeah, I use SnS. Once I started using it, couldn't stand using any other weapon, except maybe hammer and greatsword.

The main problem I have is its sluggishness when walking. It's nice enough when I'm right next to the monster, stabbing it in the head just out of range of the hammerer. However, teammates need to heal SOMETIME and when they run away, the monster inevitably charges off in some their direction and either A) I do the long sheathe period B) I walk ever so slowly over there C) I just wait for the monster or D) I charge at it and accidentally knock over a teammate or the monster suddenly turns to my direction and I'm spited for my impatience. None of them appeal to me particularly.

Like I said earlier, it'd probably be different with a team of lancers, because then the monster would constantly be near you and you could turtle him, but I rarely see lancers in general, let alone a team of lancers. In offline, the lance is pretty fine, though. Plenty of chances to counter, although I still need to work on my counter technique.

The lance is generally agreed to be the best weapon type in MH3.

The best, certainly. The most fun? Eh, it depends.

Hate the gigginox. The fearsome maw is an incredibly rare reward/maybe a carve, even in High Rank gigginoxes. I've killed like 20 gigginoxes, two or three of which were High Rank, and capped like 8, one of which was High Rank.

No fearsome maw. It's annoying as hell to get and I have no idea how people actually /get/ it. Because every time I fight the gigginox, I break its head at the very least as well as its torso much of the time. No break reward either. It's ticking me off, seriously.

Hmmm, I think I should pull my thumb out my arse and play this again to get into Multi. If there are Dwarves out there beating on them big monsters I wouldn't mind joining ya. Though I would need to play Single to get some gear up...

So let's organize a game, as in times and dates. It'd be fun!

...and I just realized this Friday I'm doing something. :I

Maybe Saturday afternoon?

I plan on butchering the thing a few times online as soon as that's possible to see if that will eke out the maw.

In other news, I made a new switchie with a Dragon phial and still have too much money. Farming HR and Gigginox do wonders for the wallet. Oh, and I solo'd the Rathian online. That was painful, but feasible. The guy was much easier offline with Cha-Cha acting as bait, lemme tell you.

Oh no, it's usable. I've seen people with the head portion of the gigginox armor set. And yeah, I have too much money and around 20000 resources for offline. I'm pretty set.

I solo'd the High Rank Gigginox online. Just barely defeated him with 5 minutes left on the clock. You know those guys are meant to be killed with a team because when he went into rage mode, he did not stop attacking me at all. Very little exhaustion, almost no time between attacks when in rage mode. Nasty bit of business. Thank God for the highest level Rathalos SnS and its immense fire damage.

I've had the same problem with the rathalos plate. I start the quest, chop his tail off, loot, then end via subquest.

I've done this over 20 times, still no rathalos plate.

Oh, that's reassuring. It's not a carve, I'll tell you. I've kicked the critter to the metaphorical curb at least ten times myself and haven't found the maw. I'm beginning to think it's just flat-out unobtainable, like Dark Cloud's Magic Carpet was. Y'know, programmed, usable, just can't be acquired.

It's not a carve in LR, but in HR the Fearsome Maw is a body carve, which makes them quite a bit easier to obtain.

You don't start getting rathalos plates even semi-reliably until high-rank. I got lucky with the offline Mating Season quest, though. If you have a rustshard weapon, then the Mating Season quest is reasonably easy, provided you're good at fighting the Rathalos/Rathian. Got both a rathalos plate and a rathian plate from it.

Man, I'm still playing MH:FU

Why couldn't they make Tri on other consoles or, even better, PC?
