As for the controller, I'm a purist in that regard. I figure if you're not using a control stick to attack, you're not actually playing Monster Hunter. :P

In my experience, I find the Wiimote easier to use when playing as a bowgunner.
But that's probably just because we only have one controller and when playing Arena co-op my friend uses it.

I... I did it!
I killed the Barroth!
And I made the chest piece of his armor set.
Now I have to kill a Gobul, but my best weapon is the Royal Claw, which does water elemental damage, which does nothing to the monster.
Damnit now I really need Mega Demondrug.

Ok, I can play in about ten minutes. Rookie 2, Gate 5, City... probably the only one because no one plays Rookie 2, but if there are more than one, it's the one with Aen in it.

Well, that was fun. Ranked up three times. Got more Barroth armor. Upgraded my sword.
Good times.

1. Evading is more important than blocking.

Normally, I would say that's debatable, but Barioth armor is just so badass that I can't disagree. (That one time where I evaded into a Royal Ludroth's fast roll and didn't get hurt at all? Yeah.)
Although, if you don't have a full Barioth set/evasion +2, you're going to get hit by a lot of tail swipes, most likely.

Yes, I love my perception +11 charm, too. I gemmed in the last 2 points. Other than that, I use a Heat Cancel (Lo) charm, which actually has a slot open for whatever gem I want to put in.

Are randoms online just bad at playing?
Because seriously, I was hunting a Rathian with a full team of randoms, all of them HR 20+, and we failed the quest because the others kept dieing.
I'm only HR 10, but I know not to just run in and slash-slash for the entire time. You're supposed to run in at an opportunity, get one or two, maybe three, or if you're lucky, an entire combo, then dodge, sheath and run away, wash rinse repeat.
Hunting with people you know to be smart (ie you guys) is so much better.

EDIT:
Also, I now know why the server censors the word after. After is anus in German.

I have no clue. I've been having trouble with randoms, even in High Rank. And for some reason, I'm finding no SnS'ers, but tons of switch-axes and longswords. Oddly enough, switch-axes and longswords CAN'T BLOCK, so these people tend to get somersault-tail-swiped and one-hit-killed by the high rank Rathian. Then they say "wtf" even if they were warned.

I must have gotten lucky or something, because I didn't have as much trouble with randoms as I'm having now. These randoms are actually the reason why I can't finish my set of Rathian+ armor. 2/3 hunts are failures because longsword people die after being too impetuous and the lance people consider themselves invincible and thus, it is not necessary to heal if you only have half health. Oddly enough, these /same people/ also go after the Rathian and don't even bother getting either Jaggi+ or Qurupeco+ armor. I'm not even sure if they really bothered with the other two monsters too much. Even the Leather+ armor is better than all the low-rank armor, yet they decide to fight with low-rank Lagiacrus armor (the fire penalty! THE FIRE PENALTY!). Now, at this point, I have near-full Peco+ armor and I'm using wide-range +2 to keep them out of death. One of the randoms didn't even had supplies and had to run all the way back to base camp shortly after curing his poison (wasn't sure if I cured it or he cured himself. I think he cured himself) to sleep.

God, I needed to get that rant out of the way. These guys have just been pissing me off. Especially since I'm wasting MY potions to heal their asses when they run around attacking the monster at half health.

Good thing potions are only 60z or so. God if they were more, I'd be out of luck and dead. I never enter a quest with less that nine or so.
People play SA and LS because they think it makes them cool, or they think they're better with it, which they usually aren't.
Personally, the only weapon I can use without failing is the SnS. Everything else is too slow, and I end up getting hit. A lot.
And all of the harder hitting weapons have long horizontal attacks that hit your teammates better than the monster itself. With the SnS, you'd have to try to hit them.

In my opinion, the only weapons that should be used online are SnS and BGs, unless you are insanely skilled, and don't hit teammates ever.
Ricky, Taz, you did a good job of not hitting other players, and I thank you for it.

anyway, we should organize another game maybe next weekend or next friday. It'd be fun!

Strike that. If you play offline, and you should, they're only 33z whenever the Argosy comes around.
Potions at 33z? I /always/ fill up when the Argosy comes around. Buy 80 of those useful potions at bargain prices.

And yeah, I've tried KOing monsters with SnS... It usually ends up with me knocking my teammates far far away. I cut my five-hit combo short too after the third one, use the two-hit combo, and then the roundslash. Six-hit, teammate-friendly combo. Although I usually get only the three-hit in for more mobile monsters.

Lance is a precision hitter, and your teammate would have to basically be right next to you to get hit. The only way they'll really get hit is if you do the running attack. There's also the idea to consider where it isn't really as much that they're reckless with their attacks, but that you just might be in the way. Trying to whack on the head with a hammer user on the team is a bad idea.

These randoms are actually the reason why I can't finish my set of Rathian+ armor. 2/3 hunts are failures because longsword people die after being too impetuous and the lance people consider themselves invincible and thus, it is not necessary to heal if you only have half health. Evade does make you (or at least me) cocky with lance, but it's because Barioth armor lasts a LONG time for lance users, and just dodging stuff all day is ridiculously satisfying. Even unupgraded Qurupeco armor lasts a while just because of the evade bonus.
