hahaha this is getting stupid XD jumped by a g.jaggi as i was collecting random crap to advance the day and just as i had wounded its head ANOTHER one trampled into the area, so i was fighting 2 of the damn things at once! what pissed me off is the second one delayed me enough that i didn't get to carve the first one :( really, if i'm still in a fight rotting should not happen.

You can cut parts off of some later monsters which are carvable as well.  Thank god for Shaka the distraction.

There comes a time when you must take off the soft, furry slippers of a boy and put on the shoes of a man.
Unless of course they don't fit properly and your feet blister up like bubble wrap.
Oh ho ho, but don't try to return the shoes, because they won't take them back once you've worn them.
Especially if that fat pig Tony is at the desk.

I've now captured Qurupeco a dozen of times and even managed to break his wings.
Still not a single Flintstone.
Stupid oversized Parrot...

He was the first boss to actually knock me unconscious.
And know he continues to be a giant pain, as he refuses to drop his tail :/

When in doubt, get a lance and equip the autoguard charm. Lot's of the strategies i found for monsters i was having trouble with basically amounted to: Get a lance and turtle it to death.

I'm planning on practicing this strategy soon.

Is the pink giant chicken still in this game?

I hear no tell of Kut-Ku rage...  Just all these fancy new ones...

Pinky's gone as far as I know. The only returning faces I've seen so far are the Raths.

I recently got myself a Hypnos Knife and I'm loving it so far. Sleep element. At first I thought it would be useless, since attacking wakes them up, but it actually puts them under for a decent amount of time. Enough time to heal up, sharpen my weapon, and place and detonate a couple large barrel bomb+s.  :D

I just managed to beat

Rathalos and Rathian
Diablos
Gigginox (clearly Khezu)
Great Jaggi and such look like the Preydromes from MHFU

Sure, he has nice buffs, gathers stuff, serves as a distracton and grants you extra carves.

He's very good for taking hits, considering if he takes heavy damage he just comes back in a minute or so.
Rather useful for Royal Ludroth.

Thanks for the thread, this game would've passed me by otherwise. I'm having a good time stabbin' and pokin' all sorts of creatures, but I have a spoiler'ish question for someone in the know:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Thanks for any response as I'm avoiding any sort of faq for fear of spoiling too many of the surprises.

I've just started learning the lance after using the sword and shield exclusively, and I'm finding the ability to weather near any flurry of attacks while still, slowly, moving about to be a great feature. I miss the fantastic dodging of the s&s, but poking things while cowering behind a shield appeals to my, not so, secret desire to one day grow up and be a phalangite. By using two different weapons, am I hurting myself in the long-term, or is it perfectly possible to maintain several upgrade paths at once?

You mean the Lagiacrus. If you'd attempted to kill it you would have died instantly. That's just a slight warning, as the
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
main quest is to kill it.

The only real worries about taking multiple weapon paths are:
1) More materials farming
2) Possible need for armor sets with skills suited to different weapons
3) Splitting your personal skill development. You'll get very talented at using a particular weapon if you use it and nothing else.
