What was your strategy for killing Rathalos?

Heh he really got a serious upgrade compared to the psp versions, not to mention he seems bigger overall. I generally hunt with a greatsword so I can defend if needed while getting some great offense in. Run up slash a couple of times (depends on if alone or online sorta) roll or block out, don't forget to bring antidotes and for the love of god run when he's in the air. That stomping attack that he and rathian does sucks when you've got noone to back you up.

Hit it till it dies.  In the face.
Learn the move sets and tells for each move.

DISCLAIMER: I don't know if Los has changed much coming from PSP to the Wii...  Hell, its hard to remember the difference between Ian and Los actually.  They die the same anyways.

Forgot if it was Ian, Los or both that does the lolinstacharge.  Make sure you can at least survive one...  Or not be in its face when that happens.

Oh god I freaking hate when los does the jump fireball, it almost always hits right where I was trying to hit the bugger.

Thanks for royal ludroth tips, I also noticed my armour was pretty bad so I've made some rhenopolos (or whatever you call it) for more defence ( yay! less time healing!)

I like upgrading my armor instead of making new armor... but I like my skills a lot. Luckily I don't think that R Ludroth has any damaging elemental attacks, so you could use whatever armor you wanted.

Of course If you like looking like a diver/bear then thats cool too.

Question on the armor spheres you need to do upgrades.
Do you get them through quests only?
Or can they be obtained otherwise?
And how rare are they?

If it's like MHFU, you can make them by combining Armor Stones with ores or certain insects, but you won't need to until endgame because you'll be swimming in them.

If the PSP version is any indication, the low level ones are more common and buyable when you start hitting the higher difficulty quests...

You can mine them in the volcano area.

Cecilff2:
You can change the underwater controls! I did, and I used SnS too. It's in the options in-game (not the main menu ones).

SnS underwater combat is pretty annoying. If you really want (relatively) easy underwater combat, my sister uses a lance, and she says that lances are basically exactly the same underwater as above-water. Same combo (poke poke poke), no worrying about dodging.

Of course, if you do really like mobility they'd be hell to get used to. Their whole strategy is sitting there and blocking and waiting for openings.

Just finished my first Great Jaggi hunt.
That was fun.

After breaking his frill, he hit me with a 3 hit combo and i barely survived.
I was a fool thinking I wouldn't need those mega potions.

hmm i seem to be attracting great jaggies like flies, my forcast has 2 days of 1 jaggi listed and one day of 2 listed, and they keep jumping me while i'm gathering honey. which, funnily enough, i'm collecting to replenish the mega potions that i wasted on all the freaking great jaggies.

also a small rant:
i find the button layout for this game fairly silly, i'm not sure exactly what i would have done but the current setup is very ... random? it just feels like it could be more streamlined. especially if they had actually used the shoulder buttons more (there are 4 of them after all) i realise the current scheme is probably what veteran players are used too but a more sane scheme for the wii classic controller would have been good (there is freestyle for the wiimote but i haven't even tried that, i imagine it's rather cludgy) and if the controls ARE new... well yeah...

The controls are pretty Japanese. I remember playing old FF games and they always wanted to use the right button as confirm instead of the bottom button. It probably got ported over here that way and they never bothered to change it because the vets like it that way. You get used to it pretty fast though and it stops feeling clunky altogether after a while.

What's even better is that days with 1 giant monster still have 2.  The second one seems to be random based on what can be chosen for giant monsters.

There comes a time when you must take off the soft, furry slippers of a boy and put on the shoes of a man.
Unless of course they don't fit properly and your feet blister up like bubble wrap.
Oh ho ho, but don't try to return the shoes, because they won't take them back once you've worn them.
Especially if that fat pig Tony is at the desk.

Fun fact: Playstation controllers were designed with the right button being confirm and the bottom being cancel. O = Yes, X = No.
For some reason, most (but not all) Playstation games had them switched when they were brought over to America, so it's now what people are used to. In MH1, the confirm/cancel buttons were swapped like in most PS2 games, but on MH3 they left them alone (probably because A = yes and B = No is standard on Nintendo).

I use the second classic controller scheme, and the controls are really very similar to the old game. And in retrospect I'm okay with them combining the two shoulder functions on the one set of shoulder buttons, because the other set is needed for the swimming controls I use.
