True. Also, not sure what you need to add me online, but I'm MrApple. I'll get my code sometime. I defeated a Royal Ludroth with 3 guys. damn awesome. I'm in full hunter gear and using a Bone Sword+, trying to get gluehoppers for the Ludroth sword.
I really love this game.

I'm still trying to figure out what weapon i want to mainly use. I'm thinking long sword or switch axe right now.

I've already unlocked the switch axe and I'm about to unlock the longsword. Another option I'm considering is going with great sword.

I've been playing the hell out of offline, but now I have to wait for my friends to catch up so we can move online. It's amazing how much my practice on the old game carries over to this one.

Spoiler: Early offline monsters (click to show/hide)

I just unlocked the 3* quests, got a ludroth sword and Hunter Armour. I'm probably gonna stick with the great sword. also at some point I'll put my details in my sig, so go ahead and add me.

I've got jaggi armor right now and not sure which to make next, I want to make the Barroh armor but he's freaking tough. I've fought him online with a full group (two bowgunners who were quite good I must say) and offline and both times it took forever. Now that I have a ludroth sword I'm more confident but still. Don't like the Gobul either, I need to face him again to... mayhaps online when I've got him unlocked.

The thing is, my hunter armor's pretty awesome due to many Armor Spheres. Not sure that Jaggi Armor's actually better.

I had fun in the early game but I quickly became un-impressed with the Wii-mote controls, mainly because they never worked properly. Also, is it just me or do alot of weapons have retarded opening strikes? On my sword the combo moves were all good but the first move was a leap forward with an overhand strike. To initiate combat, I had to run back the right distance and line up perfectly. With the lance, my guy would stab almost straight upwards before a couple of devestating thrusts. The hammer was the only weapon I found to be... usable. In any decent way.

Well for one thing I use the classic controller rather than the wii-mote. On the subject of openning moves... I noticed you can't unsheathe the greatsword without slashing anymore, tinkered with the sword n shield a bit and thats as I remember, unfortunately I haven't played with any of the other weapons thus far cept briefly with the switch axe and I haven't really used it for proper combat yet either.

Aye, the classic controller makes everything 50 million times nicer.

I never had any trouble capturing monsters. At least not any more than i have with killing them.

My problem is generally that I accidentally waste all the traps and have to abandon. Sometimes because I misjudge how weak the enemy was, but usually just because when I place it it immediately leaves the area and never comes back. :/

I even brought a pitfall trap as a backup for the shock traps last time, only to discover you can't use them in half the areas...

I'm using the classic control scheme 2 (using the stick to attack) and I find it difficult but possible to unsheath without attacking now.  It seems you have to push the stick to the side, while standing still. Anything else causes an unsheathe attack. I don't understand why they'd do that, but it's not a big problem. :/
I can't even imagine using the wiimote controls though. Monster Hunter with imprecise controls? Yikes.

I'm also using the second mode of swimming controls, since the default is actually completely impractical with this control scheme. It'd require me to use both the D-pad and left control stick at the same time. If anyone has control annoyances, definitely look at the options in-game (not the main menu ones). They have a ton of control options that I tweaked early on (like the way dodging works).

You can change how you swim? what's it like now? and what is your dodging like? I'm using the same control set-up as you. Also, pay close attention to the monsters. when they start limping, then is the time to go for the capture. It has always worked for me. If you don't catch them limping then do it when they're sleeping. As for the monsters leaving look if the monster is still trying to attack you. I usually place one, then stand behind it while they charge at me.
