... the + slash can be used as part of the combo? I didn't know that. I thought it reset the animation if you switched between it and A.

I think it might be the end of the combo. I can't remember, I don't use SnS - I'm a longsword man myself.

I'll stick with SnS because it's easier to get hits in.  A longsword might get more technical dps, but that's assuming your enemy stands still, which is only applicable for Jhen part of the time.  If your opponent moves at all, then pulling off a fully charged longsword blow is next to impossible, while the SnS can pull off whole combos with relative ease.

Let's not forget that the longsword is a fairly terrible teamplay weapon.  If one player has a longsword, then that's the only player who will be dealing any damage, aside from bowgunners.

And what's wrong with more appreciation for those who deal death from across the map? =)

I played with a hacker bowgunner the other day. We were hunting a Rathalos and he just jumped up to the cliffs around the edges of the map and shot down from them. If the Rathalos ever tried to attack him it just charged/flew into the wall harmlessly. It was pretty stupid, took a lot of the fun out of the hunt.

One thing that helps the Longsword is that the powerups it gets from completing a spirit combo can come from any enemy - not just your target. So if you're fighting a cooperative queropeco, a Jaggi/Baggi, or in a messy area, it's a lot easier to power yourself up off a minion than on the big boss.

And yes, the longsword is pretty terrible if you're working in a group. Doesn't mean it's not fun solo, though.

I've been hunting solo a bunch lately, but if you see me in the steam group listed as playing MH Tri, I'll most-likely be in Greed 3, Gate 12, City 12.

Well, I'm bumping this topic for two reasons. The main gist of the bump is "hey I want to play with you guys" also "high rank is really hard yo".

1. Tomorrow the "Poached Wyvern Eggs" quest starts running! This is a HR31+ quest that requires a minimum of two players to complete. Why, you ask?
The quest goal is to deliver 9 eggs in the Deserted Island area, within 15 minutes. With transporter pro, a complete egg run can take approximately 3 minutes.
However, the payoff can be pretty good - rustshards and ancientshards (which would normally only be available at hr40+ only) along with charms.
Thus, if anyone who is hr31+ wants to run this quest, let me know in the steam group.

2. I managed to get my Hr40 urgent. The minimum hr is 35. The quest is high-rank "Double Trouble" - hunt both a Rathian and a Rathalos at the Deserted Island, the two will prefer to stick together in most cases.
Given that it takes me about 25-30 minutes to solo a high-rank Rathian, I will probably also need help with this...

As always, I'm happy to help with others, and you can catch me on the steam chat.

I don't know when you guys play, but I might be jumping on the MH3 train if you're there. I have a decent rank 30-something Great Sword user. Been trying to get my first set of + armor so the high rank jobs don't kill me in 2 hits.  :P

Farm the crap out of HR Qurupeco. It's not much more difficult than low rank Qurupeco. Probably takes about the same time, too, since you have much better equipment than you probably did when you first fought it.

Peco+ armour is not the most amazing set ever, but it's fairly good to get yourself a foothold.

Alternatively, spend time mining in volcano to upgrade a set of Lagiacrus armour.

Another alternative is to (bleh) farm the giant laser whale for Helios. Gem as necessary.

I think I'll do the Peco. I've had plenty of time fighting him, so that's probably the easiest route for me to take. Once I get his + armor, I'll start taking on other things and work my way up to my favorite armors.

Thanks for the tips!

Few notes -

Lagiacrus+ armour isn't as good as low rank lagi armour overforged. You pay more materials(overforging and actual crafting) but you get a better set out of it.

Some other sets are similarly inferior. I can't remember which at the moment. Escadora and Jhen for two examples are pretty terrible outside of quite specific uses so you're better off not crafting them.

Enter other helpful crap here, I guess.

Finally got the Peco+ armor after 30+ Pecos, because the stupid armor requires way too many scales. But I have it now.
And as a happy side-effect, I have the 3 Wyvernstones necessary to upgrade Vulcanvil (Attack Version) To Vulcamagnon. I just need to get me some more Carbalite and Bathycite, and I'm good to go.

Sadly, I don't think I can start an advanced Flooded Forest harvest mission at HR 36. Urgh. Well, I'll find a way. I know I can get Bathycite somehow, because I have 2 in my storage...

Start adding people to your friend list in-game.  It lets you check if they're online and warp to their city.
