I'm happy that I finally managed to take down the Baroth and then immediately defeated the Gobul in one try.

Barroth is annoying as heck, taking him down is definitely an achievement. No one has yet talked about the failed Barroth capture quest in which we wasted like seven traps trying to get him...

Did you solo the Gobul? I always found him annoying to fight until I figured out the trick to blocking his lantern attack.

That last Lagiacrus hunt was pretty cool, too. Sliced off its tail right at the beginning, and had broken its horns, claws and chest easily over the course of the hunt. When it swam onto the beach, I set up a pitfall trap hoping to finish it off there, and no sooner than I had set it, the other's had beat back into a stagger, right into the trap. With Lagi stuck, we were free to wail on it, while Logical set up some large barrel bombs right by its head, and boom~

MISSION COMPLETE

I also managed to break his back, although I'm never sure if that does anything. I feel like it prevents him from doing his enraged area-denial underwater attack.

I should say that the bombs were an accident. I knew that it would be best to set them up on land so I set them as my active item as I came out of the water. Just before he got knocked into the trap he hit me with a slide attack, so I started mashing the sheath weapon button so I could set up a bomb. I guess his hit cancelled my sheathing animation because I immediately put down a bomb. From there I rolled with it. I was going to put more bombs right next to his head because I wasn't aware his horns had been broken yet.

Only singed myself a little bit there!

It looked like he was ready! We had been beating on him for like twenty minutes, and then we botched hard.
But we got him the second time around, even though I kept getting distracted and messing up. Normally I can kite a Barroth easily and the only thing that has a chance of hitting me is the tail.

I guess what threw me off is that Taz was away and not on the hunt so I didn't properly factor in the lesser rate of damage and that he wasn't nearly there yet.

I'll probably be on again on Thursday at about 12pm PST.

I wake up late so I'm generally good to play around 4:30pm after I sort myself and my chores.

For some reason, I can take everything I've fought so far with relative ease but the trick to fighting Barroth eludes me.

So I go on a gathering spree to upgrade armor and weapons. While fighting Grand Jaggi for the umpteenth time, I discover that (-) skips the annoying death animation. Then I have to take an extended vacation in the Sandy Planes to gather gluehoppers because they are one of the few bugs that you can't breed. I average 1-2 per trip. Monster Hunter is in an odd position. It's the most infuriating game I've ever played, but finding out that I can skip overly-long death scenes somehow makes it all peachy. It's like dwarves and their legendary dining rooms.

I really want to murder Barroth with a bowgun, but I'm not seeing it happen any time soon. I didn't dodge in time and got caught by a charge. He charged again before I could stand up and carted me. I think I was wearing a nearly-full set of Rhenoplos at the time. I know the weaknesses and what elements I should bring, but I just screw it up in small, subtle ways. Switch-axing him doesn't end up much better.

What I'm working on right now is some nice Alloy armor so I can quickly set up pitfall traps and bomb him in the face. Over and over and over again, until he explodes into meaty chunksfalls over. Maybe I should forget about trying to get a wireless router, as much as I would love to join you guys.

The way I beat the Barroth when I was that low was using the Royal Ludroth Claw (A SnS weapon with the water element), and just dodged all of his attacks. They're not hard to dodge when you got the rhythm down, and since SnS are light weapons, you can dodge at any time you like.
Really, once you learn his tells, the Barroth is not hard.

That pretty much goes for everything. =P

Alternatively, you could go bowgunner and just shoot everything from halfway across the map. Or, if you're in a position where you can be choosy with your equipment, raise your defenses, grab a lance, and you can block a lot of attacks.

I picked this up again a couple days ago after not playing in...probably a year. I kept trying to use Demon's Souls controls....

Decided to remember how to play by heading out on the island and improving my steak stockpile. Only it turns out the forecast was sunny with a chance of Rathalos. So I was like "haha whatever I'm pro" and decided to take it down, despite the fact that I was trying to attack with the block button and change the camera with the attack stick. And couldn't remember which button used items at first.

I totally pulled it off. Chopped and carved the tail, broke the head and both wings, then captured it when it was limping. While only using 4 megapotions in the process (since there were no supplies). Go me!

It really is like riding a bicycle, only with less chance of death. (I'm bad at bicycles.)

I think most of my problem was running out of hot and cold drinks. Also, having no idea of where to find it after it runs away, so I barely killed it in the time. The Ludroth? Nah. Fucked it up.
