Adventure log "depths of the world"
« on: April 14, 2010, 05:09:51 pm »

In the adventure log, if you select "u"nderground", it will show a bunch of "depths of the world", and "z"ooming to any of them will show various locations on the map, but when I go to any of the locations I can't find any entrance.  Does the map not indicate entrance, but just that there's caverns underneath the ground?  Or is there an entrance, but finding it is a matter of looking for a needle in a haystack?

I think it might lead to a particular flavor of HFS. Finding your way into the cave system is another thing entirely.

if you have the frame rate for it try to embark in the area but make the embark window take up the entire local tile this way in fort mode you can comb the site better and find where it is if it exist.

This may be a stupid question, but what do you mean by the adventure log?

I tried that.  On embarking there was no message about there being any sort of entrance into the underground, but there was the "cavern collapses on embark" bug.  I tried digging down to where the cave-in happened, but there was an aquifer in the way.  I tried manually looking for some sort of entrance, but gave up after a while since there was so much ground to cover.

Entrances to the underground are found in caves.

I think it is a matter of finding where the "you have found a tunnel leading down" or whatever message it is.

Anecdotally(based on a single test), it seems to be the case that where there is a listed  feature in the underground menu there is a way down.  Though, it can be rather hard to find.

Well I embarked on the entire world tile where my adventurer had sighted the "depths of the world" and there was no entrance, but I did get the "collapse on embark" message

If you're trying to get into the deepest parts of the world then all you have to do is hit a cave and keep going down. The underground is pretty much all connected so you should be able to reach anywhere with enough time wandering. A much quicker way to do it is to simply sink a shaft to

in fortress mode and then just abandon so your adventurer can use it.

I embarked where the cavern collapse happened (modded to remove aquifers) and dug down to the point of the cavern collapse.  Ran into the HFS stuff of the kind new to DF2010.  I'm going to abandon and start an adventurer from there, since aimlessly wandering around the deeps isn't any fun for me.
