Depressing bug tracker
« on: April 14, 2010, 04:46:34 pm »

Is it just me, or does reading through the bugtracker and seeing just how many bugs there are sadden you on the inside as much as it does me?

I'm aware that a majority of them are duplicates, but still... saddening.

We knew this would be buggy. Do not worry. The Toad will handle it.

I have faith in the Toad.

I just know he's slow, so it will be a while. :-)

Slow? It's already at the third bug-fix release.

Sometimes the bugs are awesome enough to make the game hilarious.  ;)

A LOT of the bugs are duplicates or not really bugs.  So no, it doesn't really bother me, mostly because of the drop-off in the rate of new bug reports and how swiftly Toady is addressing them.

You should be happy that we have such open access to the bug tracker and the progress being made on them!

what, its only 800-something! ;)
And those 800-something are probably not all unique bugs anyway.

IIRC, we were gnawing on some 300+ uniques some time in the <40 versions.

True, true...

Slow? It's already at the third bug-fix release.

At his current rate, it'll take him about a month to fix them all, wildly ballparking it.  Pretty good, actually.  I'm just impatient. :-)

on a sidenote, its not like those bugs are all gamebreaking. undead can be killed now, things made of stone or metal etc are still unkillable but wth, lock them into a cave or encase em in obsidian. Be creative :D

The only thing really going on my nerves, completely unreasonably, is vermin not disappearing.

Actually, it would probably take a little long than a month to get through them all, but a month should be enough to address the most grievous ones(game breakers and crashing bugs).

Already addressed in the next version.

a thousand bugs on a rush release(yes pre-merge - windows only release counts as a rush release) of a 2 year update - Isn't too bad in my book.

I'm in the 4th year of my 3rd fort since release, So I'm happy as can be (well once i figured out my dwaves would admit to dolomite existing if they are stock piled :P)

I'm a software tester so not really, quite the reverse actually. If you think about where the game is in development, still very early alpha if you consider all the extra stuff thats yet to be developed, the fact that you can start up DF and have some awesome fun with it right now if you want is pretty damn encouraging to me. Sure there is a lot missing and a lot of outstanding issues with what is there but still... if only the things at work worked nearly as well this early before release, my life would be so much less stressful. :P

I've tested more than a few games that had far more bugs that those currently in the DF database, and those were ports. I'm sure if all the duplicates were weeded out, it'd be a much smaller number, as well.

Besides, the game is in Alpha.  If it had almost no bugs, it'd be finished!

I am glad he released with a bunch of bugs instead of waiting 2 more months to release the game. This puts him into a feature lock state where he is focused on fixing things instead of adding content.

Plus I get to play a playable version now instead of in June.

haha I was just thinking something similar. At least we know they won't all be deferred and lied to about how they are 'As Designed'.
