Being ultimate dictator/supreme ruler of the world is overrated. If you ever want to dominate the world should should place your brainwashed puppets in all positions of power and manipulate silently.

That way you won't be just a sniper bullet away from the end of term.
This requires a sniper rifle, guns of all kinds would be contraband if not in the hands of my subordinates, if I ruled the world anyway.
I believe economic domnination would be the best bet, though somewhat difficult to achieve.

Simply patent many new objects, mass-advertise to ensure they are as quickly integrated into society as possible, phase out opposition in that sector, rinse and repeat. Might take a few generations, but eventually you're a global corporation with profits higher than most countries' GDP.

Then, just to be a jackass, close the company, and watch as everyone struggles to survive without the products that have become so integrated into their society.

Alternatively, speculate the money and stock markets, throwing so much money around as to inadvertently bankrupt and finance multiple small countries.

Congratulations, you are now the new Bill Gates. :P
You don't even need to do that just make a popular mmo and do real currency exchange for in-game objects, money for no real object, then go and close the game after your done.

World domination(verb): the act of controlling the world.

I'm in that club, BTW. Yay for flash memes.

If you have world domination, then whatever you do is automatically legal because you write the laws.

If you fail to dominate the world, then you really have more to worry about than the judicial departments of opposing governments. As in, the military departments of said governments.

I dunno, you guys have survived Thomas the tank engine, golems, zombies, nuclear explosions, laser whales, and being on the same team as ragnarock.  I don't think something as tame as a world ending rain of lava will even slow you guys down.

@Druid91

You're missing the point. You need the ENTIRE WORLD dependant on your products, otherwise you simply have a select consumer base.

When you can out-compete every other business (which is very unlikely) then you have achieved economic world domination.

You have obviously never even tried to possess something illegal. It's way too easy if you know what you are doing.

Well what happens to all that stuff that the company owned? it doesn't just go away, if you close a real stuff company you have to distribute all its stuff otherwise you lose all the money you made.

This is when the penalty for possessing class S contraband is not death and when all guns do not have gps units built in that are necessary for it to fire.

That's the thing. it's unheard of for a company to forego profits just to be a douche. But, why not? As long as you have 100% control over your business, and are the only shareholder, nothing's to stop you threatening or actually stopping producing and selling grain, meat, milk, beer, butter, TV's, doors, beds etc. etc. ad infinitum.

If you really wiped out all competition, then for at least some time, there will be MASSIVE anarchy, as no one else can produce these goods. Of course, you can now throw your weight around by simply threatening it, or even just throw your money around to influence things your way. If you really have a global monopoly on all goods and services, you are unbelievably rich.

And thats just the tip of the iceberg. You can influence the economic gap between the rich and the poor through the wages you offer your employees (which should number basically nearly everyone employed) and the prices of your various goods. You can influece the exchange rates of entire currencies just through specuating, through the sheer amount of money you've got. You have the world to make or break at your whim, without breaking a single law I'm aware of, simply through mountains of effort.

... I've thought about this too much.

@druid: Except when the underground makes its OWN weapons.  It's not that hard. You can't restrict access to the materials needed, because they are just too pervasive.

The idea is that we make EVERYTHING, the things that are pervasive would be rendered useless by the newer shinier technology over the years and that new shiny technology would be kept secure, sure you can make your own weapons, it would be like trying to rebel against the US military with a sword and shield.

Also "can't" is for weaklings not world owners.

There isn't really a way to take over the world without some sort of crime being committed, most notably treason against your country and then whatever you try doing to force people to obey you is going to have to be a crime.
And if you lack citizenship to any country? you are aware that citizenship can be voluntarily given up right? at least as far as I know, of course without gaining citizenship in another country  you probably don't gain much. and if they obey you by being your employees?
If people in positions of power are your employees then you're guilty of bribery. If they aren't expect laws designed solely to screw you over.

Also what if you simply buy all the land in the world? you let everything go on as is but you now own their land. what could they do to stop you evicting them?

And what if they aren't in positions of power? and what about having corporate HQ in Antarctica? Who's jurisdiction is that?

If they aren't in positions of power then they are unrelated you're still guilty of bribing the ones in power. And your HQ can be wherever you want it to be you're still guilty of breaking laws in the countries in which you break them.

Huh? So we live in a world with no-one in power? Then how can you have laws? The original question makes no sense as you can't break laws in a world without them.
