Megaconstruction Statue, help needed
« on: April 14, 2010, 02:31:18 pm »

I found this while googline randomly around:

its just a small image as the original link dont work anymore, but now i want to ask:
some of you may are very good at architecture and stuff, i am not. but i really would like to build such a thing too one day. so could someone make me a floor by floor plan on how to build such a thing? (just the result, the needed stairs to reach every point i know myself :x)

maybe with a few conditions too like: between the legs should be 5-9 spaces to make a street under it as fortress entrance and of course maximum 15-20 z levels would be nice too :x

I think that's kaypy's. He has a link to the DFMA map in his sig if you search the member list; I've heard of people making statues in LEGO then copying the design to DF so he might've done that.

That is why he referred you to the map on DFMA, you can look at it layer by layer and see how it is done.

well, and the problem here is the map just shows 10 of the 30 layers that specific statue got :p and the legs are not really the hard part to do. so i am asking maybe someone is interested in making me something :x

Can you elaborate exactly what the building issues are? For example, building method, application of method, architecture design, efficiency of build, hollow/solid construction, time needed to complete, etc.?

If I know exactly what the issue is, then I can help. But being on the bandwagon here, build what you want with LDD (Lego Digital Designer), build it to a scale (2x2 blocks x 2 blocks-per-Z, for example.), and work from there.

I think all I can say is, treat it like a sculpture. Hell, you can essentially do that. Build a giant monolith, and remove constructions where/when necessary.

i am not creative, and i am unable to make anything looking awesome (like that pic above) so the help i need is someone how is designing the whole thing, so i can construct it myself floor by floor. time and construction method is not an issue at all then, thats something i can get creative, because i suck at aesthetics.

all i need is someone how make me the blueprints :x

I think the reason people are reluctant is because you're basically asking them to do the lion's share of work on a megaconstruction (which is called a megaconstruction for a reason) so you can dick around with it without exposing yourself to the risk of failure. I mean, if I'm going to spend 5-10 hours doing floor-by-floor blueprints of a grand statue... it's not going to be because someone on the forums wasn't willing to try for themselves.

well you see, i want to create something ,just anything, but it should be worthwhile, and what i can create with my creativity isnt. i have no good sense for art and the like in the makeing, if at all i just can copycat (what i am basicly trying here anyway :p)
so if someone is willing to give me blueprints, its great, if not, well i cant do something about, but for sure designing something myself is exposed to be a failure (just as it was in arts class centuries ago in elementary school... i just suck at it :p not really much exaggerated: i cant even do a proper stick figure on a paper)

Stop thinking like an elf. Losing is fun.

BTW, look around for inspiration.

I mean, I'm no engineer, and I crafted the Bloodfist. It took a bit of tweaking as I worked on it so it could be possible. Not to forget, my initial blueprints aren't exactly my best work (compared to my usual art), and I was still relatively new to DF when I first began it. It was extremely satisfying to finally complete it, despite having to reclaim it a few times.

Here's something I usually do, regarding something I am not really experienced with, try and associate it with what I'm good at, compose the two together, and wish for the best.
