Advancing years after world generation.
« on: April 14, 2010, 01:25:28 pm »

Hello, I was just wondering if it was possible to sim a few hundred years after you've already started a fort or ran around as an adventurer.

I ask this because my world is only 53 years old, and it's really bugging me.

The new version runs worlds to 1050 on most if not all occasions.

If you're on .40d, you'll probably want to look at worldgen parameters. I think the main reason to stop was that some percentage of megabeasts had died, but I could be wrong on that.

I'm really new to all this stuff, so would I have to start a new world, and mess with the history seed?

Yes, you'd have to start a new world. It shouldn't run to only level 53 unless your doing a pocket world. Most larger worlds will run longer.

If you want to alter the time its running to, its not the history seed you want to mess with. If you go into the "Design a World" options and enter the advanced parameters, it should be in the first page of options - look for something that sounds appropriate, its pretty obvious.

Personally, I'd just gen a medium region though, that should be fine for you.

Good luck and have fun!

I'm pretty sure it's already in the list of eternal suggestions.
IIRC, Toady has said it'll probably be in one day, but not given any specifics.

Do even pocket worlds have a chance to stop before 200 without you manually stopping it?
I thought it was 200 for pocket world megabeast death stop..  Could be wrong..

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like Fort Unacceptable is asking to do it to an already existing world, Such a suggestion was not in eternal suggestions (but is now.)

I can see where it would be of use. Maybe you liked your world but got bored of the diplomatic situation. Generate another 100 years and it might be different. Plus if you can play with the "seed", you can pretty much ensure that actions you want to have happened will happen.

Of course Ongoing history (not genned) is required for many of the core elements, so something similar will come someday regardless.
