There are aliens invading earth in it, it's not like the x-com fans will spot any of the differences.

Aliens? I see no aliens, I see angry oil slicks splashing all over us. It's clearly just a ridiculous pro-enviromentalist message being hammered into us with the subtlety of a elephant being catapulted into a river of lava.

Oh and various forms of geometry despawning our pixelated cars.

So angry geometry and oil slicks.

If I didn't have a context I'd just described Super Mario Sunshine right there.

Super Mario Sunshine was definitely a mario game.

However, this is like calling Bioshock "Chess 2".

So hey, remember this?

http://xbox360.gamespy.com/xbox-360/x-com-project/1150476p1.html

Apparently, after the massive amount of "We don't want a fucking FPS" fan input, there are "major changes" going on with the X-com reboot, although no one is saying exactly what they are. Given that most engines today are capable of displaying either in FPS perspective or isometric, hopefully they're at least giving us the option for isometric gameplay.

Oh hey, this thread is back!  Hi thread!

...Oh hey, neat.  They are listening to fans?  They might be changing it back to be like the old ones a little more?  Let me click the link...

Now, in the wake of 2K Australia Studio Director Martin Slater resigning, it appears the XCOM franchise is once again getting a makeover. According to a tweet from industry information-sleuth Superannuation:

"FWIW, there's a rumor that XCOM's undergone some big changes since it was announced."

There are no details on what those changes might be at this point, and 2K declined comment.

Article, I am disappoint.

X-COM has been downgraded to just a name, if I understand correctly.

XCOM is an Xbox 360 exclusive
:(

Now I hope they don't make it any good. I'd hate to miss out on a decent x-com game.

Did they just piss off the entire XCom fanbase and decide to retreat to the 360 because they knew the XCom fanbase was largely on the PC, or what? If they were banking on getting anything out of the name, this move is just bizarre.

More I would guess that the current financial climate cut into their time and funding to do cross-platform development. Doing the math, you will make more money selling on the 360 than you will on the PS3, and you'll get it done far faster than developing for the PC.

So I usually treat exclusivity announcements as "further development contingent on sales."

It's kinda sad to see them digging out the corpse that is the X-Com franchise and raping it when they need a few bucks.

The only way to make any success with this franchise would be to remake the first game. Exactly. Like "completely-exactly", just with improved graphics, still the same style. That *could* be an success, much more probably it would be completely unmemorable. The Franchise is dead, they should just accept it. Attaching X-Com to any game title isn't something that will make any game look better, by now, it will only make it look worse.

Remember, this is NOT the same company that made the awesome Bioshock game. It is the same company that made the horrible sequel.
