Well, we've had to pretend a couple of games in the X-Com series never existed--I guess we can do it for another one.

The new one might well turn out to be a fun game, but I'd be completely happy to shell out $50 or $60 for a really nicely done remake of the original.

Sixty dollars for a remake?  You're part of the problem.

I'd pay them to make an X-COM game similar to the original, but with more weapon variety (KATANAAA!!!), less powerful psionics, randomly generated maps, and more ways to fight the alien menace. (Economically, I dunno?) I wouldn't pay them to make an exact copy.

If it was a good remake... Not a fucking shooter based on x-files.

Yeah, i'd pay for mostly straight up remake with graphical updates.

and multiplayer.

But I would be willing to pay 50-60 for the same core game with better graphics and additional stuff.

Becuase god knows noone will risk making a new game like this, and history has shown people will screw up any modifications to the formula if given leeway to do so.

Meh I wouldn't pay 50-60 dollars for any game no matter how good it is.

Also, X-com FPS, no just no, probably par usual mainstream fps developers will put a linear storyline on top of it with no freedom.

Hmmm.  Better and more fair AI... maybe a revamp of the shooting model (the accuracy was never quite what I wanted)...better maps...I'd be sold alright.

Fight the aliens economically?  Like, export all those gauss cannons to create AA turrets in every major country?  But then the aliens would end up landing in undefended areas and fighting YOU economically with less-secret bases, and...well, suddenly you're playing a totally different game.  (Also, I think the aliens would eventually decide to use Rods from God.  Still!

I don't know about the katana.  I mean it works great in Left 4 Dead 2, because that's a goddamn zombie movie, and sometimes you're a redneck kid, with a katana, which is awesome.  But I always thought of X-Com as being very Western and serious, while katanas add a kind of awesome that is decidedly silly.

...I'd still pay a lot more for an awesome tactical remake with the X-Com branding, whether it's turn-based or realtime.

Oh of COURSE it's in comic book style.  But it's ABOUT people who take themselves dead serious!  The characters aren't on to it.

Nothing wrong with linearity if the game is fun.  The Half Life games are practically rail shooters, but they're awesome.

If there's deforming terrain and destructible buildings/vehicles/alien heads, I'm for it. But if I can't just MAKE my entrance/exit by spraying bullets down the range, why bother?

Hell, if they make it like Red Faction: G and let me take the Transport APC's wheels. Plow through the wall of the Mall the aliens are 'suspected of being in'. Let it skid across the immaculate mall floor, crash into a fountain, causing the 4 ton half-track to make a flip in the air, before finally coming to a rest incide a Cinnabon, with a bunch of vomiting or bleeding recruits pouring out the back...

Oops, false alarm. No aliens here. Move along people! Nothing to see here.

Yeah, I'd take a two month hiatus from life and just play that.

"What's that? Alien sighting at the white-house?! FIRE UP THE AVENGER! I'm driving!"

So then they wouldn't mind having a katana, or even an energy katana for that matter if it looks badass and kills shit.

I can never take the intro seriously because it shows X-com being effective with human weapons.
