Yeah, so, did they like want to get an X-Files license and couldn't pull it off, and thought X-Com sounded close enough, or what?

THERE ARE NO CHRYSALIDS IN THIS LEVEL

CHRYSALIDS ARE DLC ONLY

<_<
>_>

Don't laugh, you know something like this is going to happen if the game doesn't crash horrifically.

It seems all my predictions are not only coming true, but nearly to the T.  And if all my predictions come true, in my opinion, it utterly ceases to be an X-Com game in every right and should be instead called "The X-Files: Reloaded" or "Horror/FPS: Now with Research/Photography!".

Hey... X-Files is cool.  I see a play-style similar to Heavy Rain working....  not an FPS.  Not enough people/things to shoot...

Oh hey.

This looks badass, and it looks like it's currently in professional development.  I hope.

Yeah but it's worth fixing, so long as the site isn't completely misrepresenting things it looks like this game has promise!

Good, bad? I do not know, for I have never played X-Com.
Also you might want to change the thread topic, I only learnt it was about X-com by accident. Unless Suicide Pact is an X-Com thing, in which case, nevermind. =P

Y'know, if I was marketing a remake of the X-Com games, I'd try to include screenshots of things that actually have anything to do with the previous games in the series. 'Cause otherwise... Whats the point of calling it X-Com?

Nothing I've seen so far has changed my mind; they're just calling it X-Com to cash in on the name of the old games.

Just about the only thing XCOM has in common with suicide is sending hapless brave soldiers to their inevitable demise, so that the rest of the team makes it through to become badass.

There is this page, it has a picture of the new geoscape. For some reason you need to right click and view image to get a bigger shot but I'm happy to see the options along the top: Bases, Research, Workshop oh and it has funding too. Hopefully the management side of things will be good.

I can relate to the worries over this game, I've got plenty myself, but if they do a good job of it this could be a really great game.

edit: Unfortunately the geoscape shot is not for the new xcom game but another project clearly inspired by the original x-com. A bit unfortunate really. I'm now more excited about the other project than the official one.

I had a look at that first look article, and... it's just not xcom. X-com is sending in a load of military recruits with rubbish weapons against the aliens. It's a valiant battle of brute strength, skill, numbers and technology against the aliens where anything can die to anything. The mere fact you need specialist weaponry to kill enemies isn't very x-com to me- sure some weapons are better but in the end overkill should always work.

The article showed the game using a very different, more x-files if not lovecraftian approach to it. Even minor details, like how you aren't meant to kill every alien (sure retreating was an option in x-com, but it wasn't the normal approach) make it seem like a whole new game. Though from the looks of it, it might be quite good. I just wish they either didn't use x-coms name or made it more like x-com.

It really sounds like I should play X-Com. Which should I start with?

The first one. X-Com: UFO Defense (a.k.a. UFO: Enemy Unknown).

Is there something I can read or something, so I get the general gist of the game? At the moment, I don't know what the heck I'm doing.

I was talking abiout the new X-com game, which AFAIK is entirely set within the USA.

'Cause noone outside of the USA plays X-Com of course. :P
