Because they couldn't acquire a X-Files license.

The other thing that bugs me is how IGN seems to act completely oblivious to the fact that this is nothing like the original.  The headline on IGN.com says it all > >

"Forget little grey men, 2K Marin's XCOM reboot shatters the American Dream with an all-new threat... and it's looking hot."

Hey IGN, how much did 2K buy you out for?  At least he got the "shattered our dreams" part right.

Might be a fun bioshock-like game... but... x-com? ... never.

I mean, will it have only one species?

I'm going to E3 next Tuesday. I'm going to go talk to them and see if I can't pry some details out of these people.

It's entirely possible that they're releasing some of their 'original' content first to stir up controversy...I can hope that that's all this is.

But I will do my best to find out!

It's obvious that the hordes of weak, disposable enemies being presented here are a colossal departure from How X-com Works.

I officially have NO FAITH in this reboot until I see a trailer with a Chryssalid.

Don't worry in the new one chrysalids will be fast but very weak with only a small amount of health and a low damage, only NPCs will be infected with eggs and turned into zombies. Killing the zombies will actually prevent any new chrysalids forming.

Also if you walk somewhat like a zombie and spray lemon pledge all over yourself you will pass for one of them and you can MATE WITH THEIR FEMALES.

The trailer looks pretty nice, but yeah, it looks very very non-X-Com.

Since I've heard Bioshock is good (need to get round to playing that...) I expect it will possible be a pretty fun game, but the somewhat inferior and horror-like aliens aren't x-com like. From what I've seen and heard they'll basically be unstoppable until you have the right stuff (the interview talked about merely slowing down the blobs without special grenades) and then become easy- in true x-com you can kill anything with enough firepower but even with tons of technology a single sectoid with a plasma rifle you missed can still be deadly.

At least Fallout 3 had aspects inspired from the other games, took place in the same (sorta) world, still had RPG elements quite firmly. This looks like it has nothing at all to do with X-COM
