The thing is, I'll be giving them the standard poison thingy.

You mean plump helmet men are secretly toxic?

...Or just that you're making them susceptible to poison?  As that makes some sense.  I think mushrooms are slightly toxin resistant, but can't quite recall.

I rather like keeping the originals, and modifying them to be civilized... they were such a wonderful find, it doesn't feel right to just abandon them.
I just don't think the world of Dwarf Fortress civilizations is kind enough for them to survive peacefully.  It'd be like adding the smurfs as vermin and expecting them not to be wiped out by the rats.  Or toads.  Or turtles.

And I don't even want to think about what dorfs would do to smurfs if they were a civ and attracted their attention.

Do the plump helmet men have sex at this point?

sex?

no.

the game is actually remarkably equipped for their reproductive activities already.

they reproduce through spores

Goddamn this game is awesome.

As for them not surviving on their own... I don't mind modding them to be a bit tougher (things like disease resistance are fine, they could breed a lot, require few resources... I don't know the civ rules. Maybe the individual civs are weak, but they create new ones easily?), but I'd like them to be the same species.

What do you really need to turn Elves into Dwarves? Mutation could make them grow a beard; insanity effects could make them evil-minded, aggressive, tree-hating cave dwellers, and instant, full necrosis of their lower legs could make them short.

Phew, no Toadettes to worry about.

Then again... no Princess Toadstools either.

Do cave creatures get biomes, even?

Thank you. I needed that.
Though, if only you had the actual plump helmet man thing to put on that... though, I suppose it's probably just a p.

Still working out the kinks. As for the civilization, I'll just duplicate and modify the entity entry for animalmen.

The DF wiki mentions soldiers killing plump helmet men and then eating them on the spot since their skin is edible.

I have one question.

Doesn't doing that make dwarves more like elves?

I was talking about importing alimunim.
And we were hypothesising about the sexual relations between elves and trees.

When elves do it, it highlights the hypocrisy of their holier than thou stance.

When dwarves do it, it's just being honest about being the most destructive force in existence.

I just added the D for Dwarf...thing to the Plump Helmet Man page. Would someone mind telling me if it fits the usual format? I don't do wiki work that often, aside from correcting grammar on occasion.

If dwarves decided to live in trees like hippies, they'd still do it better than the elves.
