How about telling him you're not gay. If he is gay, he should react pretty decently (oh, I was hoping...), and if he's not gay he should react accordingly embarrased (oh, I wasn't hoping...).

Gay people are actlually pretty awesome, if you just care to be open enough to them about anything. Atleast the gay guys I know are pretty easy to talk to about anything with any base-point.

And yeah, just to clarify, I'm not gay, but am female. Understandable mistake; happens literally all the time.
Anyways, I'd rather given up on this whole thing. He just bounces around in the distance at this point, and I'm living  with it best I can.
