Check out some Memphis shit... Old school Triple 6 Mafia, Low Key, 187 Family. Best beats ever, it's all really gangsta though I dunno if that turns you off or not

Nah, really, Hip-Hop which is not about hoes and cash and cars and shooting eachother sucks, but there's some nice non-gangsta stuff. Mainly from Hamburg, Germany, it seems, for some reason.
Fettes Brot I do enjoy, especially their song Jein.
Even if you don't speak German, the video is worth a watch :P

My LA teacher just made us listen to a rap song and then we spent 3 class's deconstruction the poetic devises in it.

Ugh. And of course it had to be Changes. A good song, but its so different from Tupac's usual material that its rather misleading. Anytime someone talks about him in a good light, its always Changes that comes up. ( Conversely, whenever people talk about how evil/profane/whatever rap is, they cite either Hit Em Up or NWA, weirdly. )

Hmmmmm. Does Nujabes count? As far as my crappy knowledge of music tells me, it's a mixture of hiphop & chillout. I suppose I like the chillout part more though.
(the hiphop'y bits are by various other artists)

I just now found People Under The Stairs and it is sounding awesome.
