Elves bring tamed tigermen?
« on: April 12, 2010, 08:01:56 am »

I rescued them from their cruel enslavers, of course.  Now they hang out in my meeting area.  They are educated--they have skills and names and they socialize with my dwarves, but they're lazy and don't work.  On the plus side, they drink water when they get thirsty and don't molest my booze stockpile.  Final analysis:  I have the option to butcher them, for some reason.  Should I?

(There is a story behind this. . .)

This is an Alder Omelette. All craftsdwarfship is of highest quality. It is encircled with bands of cheese. It menaces with spikes of bacon, ham, and peppers. On the object is an image of dwarves in egg white. The dwarves are eating.

Depends on your definition of morals.
I think there is something similar happening in the current iteration of Sparkgear. It is over in the Community Games & Stories Section, you might want to check it out.

I resent the humiliation of my fellow anthropomorphic bretheren!

gotta say, I like the new elven caravans much more. Apparently, elves also have beards... they bring lots of booze. I think we're approaching a new elven hybrid civ.... the dwelves.

You'll see. Soon, they'll build ridiculously over the top machinery and buildings and apply tree to everything!

Those tigermen were not "tamed". They were broken.

Kill orders can be assigned to merchants. Do it.

When you buy so much stuff from them that your dwarves spend two seasons hauling it down and the elves themselves spend an entire season in your depot because they have too much to carry, you'll change your mind about them all over again...

co-existence is great, if there were a way to train them up, they may help protect against seiges. If only they could be enlisted...

After long years of burning, drowning, crushing, and otherwise waging a genocidal campaign against the elves, the dwarves gradually realized that their efforts had little to no long-term effect. The elves always returned, and were always the same.

Now, a new kind of elves are appearing. Elves that capture and tame wild beasts in quantities greater than ever before. Elves that imprison and sell sentient beings. Elves that can stand in axe-to-axe combat with a dwarf. Elves that have BEARDS.

The nature of the dwarves' new strategy is becoming apparent. If you can't bleed them out, breed them out.

For the love of god, don't, don't kill the tigerman. I just imagine a happy little man with a tigers head that's sort of smiling and doesn't know what's going on wandering around the fort, and when someone says something nice to him he turns around and starts trying to make friends. Poor thing.

Only in Dwarf Fortress could you get 4 armed heads scuttling about on cavern roofs.

Can you add [trainable] to their raws and make War Tigermen?  Or does their intelligence prevent that?

I'd have a beast man settlement.
Little houses for each beast man I save.

Can you assign them a bed and stuff?

If you somehow integrate them into your fortress, yes.

Wait, they have the [intelligent] tag?  Does this mean that someday we could see a Dark Tigerman Tower?
