They're working on a full-featured version of DF for the iphone/touch/pad with graphics and a streamlined UI.

They are collaborating with Valve to make a Source version of DF, as well as looking into licensing some of their code to Valve so HL3 can have hydrostatic water pressure and etc.

I heard from a friend of a friend that knows a guy that Toady is working on a Dwarf Fortress MMO.  It won't be complete until all the stuff about building in adventure mode is done, but basically everybody will start in the same world in their respective civilizations in year 1.  Your character will continue doing actions when you're away, and when you die, you can take over as one of your family members who isn't being played yet.  New players can also pick from those people.  After 1050 in-game years, the world is exported to everybody who played in it as a world you can build fortresses in.  I don't think you'll be able to play as megabeasts though.

While an awesome thought, I find it hard to believe DF players would let the world reach year 2 before bringing about the Age of Death =/

As for rumors... well, I hear that it's eventually going to be possible to load living beings into catapults. They don't even have to be tamed, so throwing bronze colossi at the latest goblin siege would be entirely possible.

'Course, catching the thing again after it slaughters the siege would be the between Launch! and Profit...

Dwarf Fortress 2 (or Slaves to Armok, God of Blood 3) will shift to a full 3D environment with online multiplayer capabilities. And possibly be built in Java.
