No doubt you've all noticed this already, but when I check the kill page for my "potluck" starting seven, they're all like 400+ years old, and have killed at least a few hundred "creatures", at least a dozen or more of which are named historical people (humans, goblins, elves and even dwarves!)

And yet they seem to never have any combat skills.

What gives?  Did they all work in a slaughter house before coming to my fortress or something?  Does the game count stepping on a cockroach as a kill?

If you look carefully, the kills will likely have come from before they were born.  This is apparently a bug with dwarfs assuming the identity of historical figures (specifically megabeasts), including their rather large kill lists.

Completely different here. I'd go so far as to say that most of my immigrants have had combat skills.
