Can we hire more people? A single squad of 4-5 soldiers won't be very interesting for long, especially after we start taking casualties.
Spectre command will assign you more people if they find it necessary, and they might send replacements as well, that's free. You can also hire independent people, ask the shuttle pilot on that, but those will cost money.

I thought it was a volcanic planet, considering the tiles are red on ground level and-Look at the atmosphere.

The redness is sand, but, indeed, the CO2 points at volcanic activity. I didn't think of that.

How much would powerful guns be? Digging machines?

Pistols are 500c, and are standard on the supply ship. Heavier rifles, assault weapons, shotguns, will cost 1000, and anything heavier (anti-tank, flamethrower, machinegun) will cost from 2000 up.
Digging tools wil cost between 100 and 1000, depending on what quality you want. 100 is picks, 1000 is mining lasers, inbetween is all sorts of drilling stuff.

The commander of the mining outpost has been called back to the Spectre to witness in a case of fraud a mining company is accused of. This long and boring process will take three full days, during which full command over the outpost is given to the head of mining operations.

Okay, so we'll buy 4 of any digging tools that cost 500 a pop. Also, 30 metal and 30 electronics sound good, as well as researching stuff.

Commander Frederick hands the recently filled out order forms for various weapons to the supply ship. He then returns to his troops to give a rousing speech on how important their jobs are, before returning to his command console.

Order two energy sniper rifles and a man-portable missile launcher.
Send all four soldiers out to capture the first outpost.
Give helpful commands from my command console.

Commander Frederick has bought some supplies for his men and sent them out. In the mean time I will buy supplies to keep us trucking and have the bots fixed up some. I know it is against regulations but we are short staffed so I may need to hire some guns to help us on our mission.

I will buy enough mettle, electronics and mechanics to bring us up to 30 each. I will also buy 100 oxygen. I will ask about hiring people.

Acanthus, I would prefer it if you consult with me before doing things. This is supposed to be a cooperative game.
Acanthus, what do you say to 3 assault rifles and 2 digging lasers? It'll be expensive, but hopefully any ore we find will make up for it.

Oh sorry. :X

What if we get four of the mid-priced ones? I would prefer to have all the engys to be able to mine at an equal pace? I would like more metal, as I will try to make a mining drone to assist with your miners.

I was under the impression that only one could mine at a time...
Eagle, can multiple people mine on the same tunnel simultaneously?

If the tunnel is big enough, sure, why not?

If you guys tell me what you want to buy, I can post a turn ;)

Okay, then; how about 4 $500 diggers, and two $1000 assault rifles?

Space captain, sir! We'd like to order four drills; somewhere in the $500 price range sounds good. And two assault rifles, please.

Have them work on flying drones, things like the modern day Reavers.
