As a sequel of New Hope Survival and New Hope Revival, I bring to you: New Hope 3 - Orbital. Take command of a team of researchers, miners or soldiers and explore the new galaxy.
There will be three player-controlled outposts on the planet surface, each connected to a space dock by a mass relay. Every outpost is either research-, mining- or military-themed, and will require two player characters: the Captain, and a 'head'. The captain has the ultimate say in all matters, but should leave theme-related decisions to the head. The head will, depending on the outpost, be either a Researcher Director, an Earth Alliance Commander, or a Head of Mining Operations.
The players should each post every 48 hours, either one player posts for the captain and head, of they each post in seperate posts. PM'ing (or on-topic discussion) is recommended, and please put some effort into a decent RP. It is so much more fun to read a game-based story than a set of numbers.
A turn takes one day, and all personnel has to be assinged whatever job the captain and head see fit. Possible actions:
- Build (needs modules from supply ship)
- Design (whatever you want, I'll return you a blueprint with all needed material on it.)
- Research (needs reagents, you'll see how much it used at the end of the day.)
- Explore (needs EVA and oxygen, no topological map this time)
- Be creative (ask me something, and I'll tell you what you need for it. Everything is possible, but some actions will have requirements like 'be a god')
The following picture is an example of how a Research-themed base would start. Note that the lab, research director, researchers and reagents will be replaced by other items in military and mining outposts.
Most of it is self-explanatory, really. Oxygen is only needed when doing EVA jobs, and food resources are used on a 1pppd basis. Atmosphere goes from -100% (none) to 0% (EVA needs oxygen, but plantlife can grow perfectly) to 100% (it's like back home!).
Once in 5 days, a supply ship will come with basic resources to sell, and will buy stuff and take requests. If you are tired of this planet, or even solar system, just fly to another, provided you have the money.
And now for the fun part. The captain obviously has a public goal: dig X iron, make genetic wheat grow on NO2 (wheee!), destroy an outpost lost to mutiny, etc. The head, however, has a hidden goal, which often has a reason to be hidden. For instance, the crew has a deadly virus - observe effects. When a goal is completed, the person in question will receive a reward and a new goal. The captains' reward will often benefit the whole station, so the head has all interest in helping him, and the captain and head both profit from better, greater, more important bases, so they will need to work together.
Whoever completed the most goals at the (fun TM) end of the game will win.
