Bestowed the name <...> upon copper mace
« on: April 11, 2010, 02:03:37 pm »

http://yfrog.com/bfbestowedj

So, my first dwarven caravan's guards stumbled across a skeletal goat. about a year and a half later into my fortress they're still fighting that goat but that isn't the annoying part. Every month or so the dwarf gives his mace a new name, he isn't even apart of my fortress.

Anyway to stop this?

This happened in the Asax the Cave Swallowman thread, who was also eternally fighting something. Try using a cavein to kill it? If that doesn't work, drop it down a pit somewhere.

A cave in? I'm still fairly new so how does that work exactly?

Well, in this case they're outside (now that I read a little bit more) so you won't be able to do that without dropping both of them and killing the guard - it's basically just collapsing unsupported land downwards, though. I guess you could stand to kill the guards if it's been this long, so... dig out the land for 5z or so underneath them in a small plus-sign. Then channel out the four tiles NESW of the combatants' tile. After adding supports to the land underneath their sort-of-floating tile then connecting on to a lever, you can then remove the other stairs and pull the lever to collapse their little platform. They should fall 5z and be either dead or too injured to keep naming their damn weapons.

Or any other variant of this, really.

Problem with that is my miners won't go anywhere near the goat as its still alive and able to chase them, the fight is still moving aswell even though the goat itself has no legs left  :-\

EDIT: problems got worse, the other guard has decided to start naming his shield too.

The real bug here is that creatures which aren't truly alive are unkillable, especially skeletal stuff.

The bug report is here: http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/mantisbt/view.php?id=33&nbn=36#bugnotes

I remember you could turn off the pause announcement for warm/wet rock, could I do the same for this?

EDIT: Ok, you can turn off the pause/announcement box so I guess I'll just leave them going at it for the rest of time.
EDIT2: The skeletal goat managed to push one of his attackers off a cliff and kill him, Goat 1 - 0 Caravan.
