I could totally see him caring as a "you won't show up as a black mark on my legacy, young lady" type of thing. Well, she does have her uses as the medium between the court and the forest.
Kinda like a star football player.  The institution doesn't really care about their academics, just that they are useful to the school/court and are not making an embarrassment out of themselves/the institution. 
I guess Carver is an unpaid intern as far as they care?

The father on the otherhand... well... there is a wide range of interpretations.

Nah, I think he's just being a dick.
Throughout the last few pages, he has shown himself to not only be completely uncaring, but also totally willing to humiliate and belittle his daughter at every turn. He has looked for a way to make her miserable while still staying totally legit and he has succeeded.

Anthony Carver is the best of dads. We can all agree that he's a bit of a jerk. But he's also bringing up some solid points. Cheating that much is unacceptable. He's been a bit of a dick about the whole situation, yeah. I'm curious to see what he says next. I like this character a lot.
