I think... I think "trick" is too strong a word here. It's more "Even if coyote suspects this is what we want, we have arranged things so that it is ALSO what HE wants, to a certain extent."

It's not like Coyote hasn't made his general contempt of Yesengrin as his diplomat terribly clear.

I think the court is seizing an opportunity, once that required a certain amount of subtlety to achieve, but I don't think tricking Coyote would be necessary. Keeping up appearances, however, would be. It's a win for the court, but it's probably exciting and amusing and an opportunity for Coyote as well.

Surprising outcome... but... when looking at it, it fits.  Annie was never really going to properly represent the Court if she was chosen to be the medium for the Court anyways...  She has never really been an obedient pawn of the Court and is more akin to the Forest, as her stay there has shown.

I'm not sure if the headmaster is actually against this or if he knows his resistance will ensure that she accepts Coyote's offer.

I'm thinking the current events are working against him by his body language (actual emotion, wow), but I'm not sure if it's "Crap, she's getting a medium position after all" or "Crap, we wanted her to get the medium position but she's not supposed to get any support".
