Weapon Creation Questions
« on: April 10, 2010, 09:55:31 pm »

1) Do weapons in the item_weapon.txt file get automatically added to the blacksmith's forge or something? If not, do I have to create a separate custom workshop that allows me to make them?

2) How do I allow dwarves to use bows and arrows in fortress mode?

The entity_default.txt file has the RAW files relevant to civilizations; the Dwarf civ entry has listings for weapons allowed, which causes them to show up everywhere Dwarven including your own forges. Adding bows and arrows to this (copy the Elf entry) would theoretically allow them, but I think they're sized wrong.

The weapon only has to be in item_weapon.txt for the game to recognize it.

Thanks, and all I have to do is give each entity to proper [ITEM:WEAPON: etc... tags and they will use them in battle and bring them for trade?

Yep. Case in point, I now have halberd-wielding 'axedwarves'.

The same applies to clothing, toys, siege ammo, trap components, custom buildings and reactions. You have to define them in entity_default.txt for an appropriate entity to use. It's cool, in previous version there were no custom buildings and reactions were "universal", now you can make race-specific reactions and jobs which is A W E S O M E :).
