Quick question on HFS (spoilers, of course)
« on: April 10, 2010, 09:26:00 pm »

So I haven't had the chance  to thoroughly test out this new version, but I have a couple quick questions.  I do not want to be really spoiled, though.  A simple yes or no will suffice for my purposes.

1) I've dug down as deep as I can and can't get past the semi-molten rock.  I assume the real fun begins with the infamous cyan ore?

2) Does Adamantine still only occur in mountain areas, or is it everywhere now?  Does it have the same frequency as before (1 per world tile)?

Again: I want to discover it on my own, but I want to make sure I'm not wasting my time.  Thanks.

Yes and yes.

Technically it's three questions. Yes, everywhere, no.

The cyan ore is where fun begins. It is in every 3x3, iirc.

Yeah. <spoiler> is guaranteed in a 3x3. However, there's a <redacted> that only appears once per 16x16 (NOT limited to mountains).

Basically the old cyan FUN magnet it common now, and the REAL HFS only comes once in every 16 by 16 grid, but realistically it isn't that much harder to survive and less rewarding, so meh.

Thanks all!  I just found a column of Goodness going down through the magma sea.  I'll dig through it when I have time tonight.  There are a good 50 z-levels down there, so I'm sure it's big...

So ... uh ... I breached the gigantic underground chamber and my dwarves all died pretty fast at the hands of random insect-things.

Did I find <spoiler> or <redacted>?

Not the latter. You got the eerie cavern, which is the main HFS. There's an extra special -redacted- hidden elsewhere, though. It's just a lot more rare (ie. rare at all).

You'll note addy is much, much more rare in this version - practically always guaranteed unless you embark on a 3x3, and even then it's still practically a 50/50 chance.

Of course, everything is deeper, which is a bit annoying (at least for me).

Ah well, I'm off to make a real fort now.

Editable in the worldgen settings. Really, nobody's fiddled around with anything but the default yet.
