Elephants aren't exotic pets, thats why you can tame em without the DM. War Elephants kinda suck, though - against anyone in armor they can't do anything, since they hit with their feet (which do blunt damage) and tissues for animals are really really low density (thus suck for blunt damage). Plus the feet are relatively small compared to the rest of the body, and apparently it doesn't yet take into account the huge legs and body thats attached to the foot.
I tried modding them to use their tusks to see if that would be better, but apparently the tusks are set to be super weak and way light too, and the actual tusks on the elephants are extremely tiny (relsize 25, which is 1/4 the size of their tails) making the tusks completely ineffective. Elephants in this version might as well be sheep.
Modding the elephants to have tusks 8x the size that they are currently (relsize 200) and editing the raws to have density of actual ivory (1700-2000, I gave them 2000, it was only 500) and upping the yields to be 1/2 that of bone (it was set to 1/20th that of bone) gives them a fairly effective weapon that can actually cause mild bruises through iron armor. It isn't enough for them to single handedly fight a single armored axe goblin goblin, but if you get a dozen or so of them piled on they can take them down and only lose 1 or 2 elephants.
