I would like to add that while this is a great tragedy and loss to all of us, Poland isn't going to be paralyzed in any way like some people may speculate. Like in every country, for every important person there are several others to take their duties in case of emergency situation. President duties are going to be taken by Chief of the Parliament (or whatever he is called in English). The Polish law decribes all these procedures, the new President has to be elected in about 2 moths. So I don't fear for the future of my country.
Still it is very unfortunate accident that so many people died. Many of them were well known politicians who appeared on TV and were talked about quite frequently, not just some random names.

I am very sad...

I removed some of the trolling from earlier on in the thread.  Please try to keep it together.

My parents told me before, as they were watching it on the polish television.
They seemed quite shocked, but I myself wasn't really affected, since living in Austria and having no ties to Poland except relatives made me really detached.
Besides of that I've never been interested in politics and posses no patriotism whatsoever.

when the airport isn't modernized enough to have equipment to help planes land.
Well, actually Smolensk-North is not an airport. Its military airbase, which is not allowed to take civil aircrafts and exceptions are done only for govt.
According to published airbases list, it IS equipped with navigation systems, but they are military-grade, and civilian airships do not have proper avionics to use it.

Putin will investigate the shit out of it!

By the way, the reason Stalin ordered to kill all those officers is because he held a grudge against Poland from back in 1920 where the Poles attacked the red army (togethers with the Brits, French, Americans and the white army) and defeated Stalin and captured like 3000 troops and broughty them back to Poland as POWs and most of them died from disease or starved to death. So in my opinion it's totally justified.

You, Americans, are very self-centered, you know...

Nah, I'd probably think that too if my dad wouldn't have told me yesterday about the Polish president's death.

Damn straight. No offense tho.  Bay 12 Games is an international forum. So it could be any President, because the topic name doesn't state it.

Oh, that's what that was about.
I didn't think twice about the title because I read about it first in the sad thread.
But yes, Americans can be pretty self-centered.
Me, I'm American but don't really identify with any nation.

I assumed it was the American president too, and I'm not American.

I concur about the self-centered-ism. I guess I'm used to the online informal practice of 'President' referring to U.S. President, and '{Nation} President' otherwise. I don't like it either.  ;D

It looks like Leh Kachinsky forced pilots to land. It was 4-th attempt to land in thick fog, and it's not usual to try more than 2 times. He insisted on landing once before in 2008, but pilots didn't obey that time.
This tragedy looks hideously ironical and mystical, but it seems to be only personal mistake, leading to terrible outcome.
Most shocking idea struck me after it: sometimes in history situation is also very "foggy", and whole countries drifting above deadly ground. One mistake of one preson in power could kill countless millions.  It's really terrible to realize.

Condolences form all Russian people.

Americans don't get much news about other countries (aside from this silly war) unless we actively search for it. It's nice getting views from other places on this forum.
