This is indeed going to be a great source for conspiracy theories. Especially considering they gave the de facto leader of Russia the investigation.

Oh, come on, Russians are not always the evil guys, why should they want to kill that guy?

Man. This actually shook me really badly. You end up growing to think your leaders are invincible, don't you? Despite the evidence to the contrary.

According to numerous witnesses at that airport and reports of our (Russian) officials, there was heavy fog with zero visibility, and ground told that it would be safer to fly to Moscow or Minsk instead. Pilot decided to risk, and as result, crashed.
Both Tusk and Putin are already at crash site, and investigation will be done by joint team. All communications with ground are recorded, so I'm sure result of investigation will be 'pilots error'.

Kaczyński is known for taking unnessesary risk and not listening to his safety guards. There was same incident in time of Russia-Georgia war, when he tried to force pilot to go directly to Tbilisi, ignoring the danger. Pilot refused, but was punished for it. This time new pilot decided to obey, it seems.

The assumed cause of crash is already 'pilots error' :P

And yeah, he was gambling with Death. Forgot that Death always wins.

Looks like people think "Loosin is fun"

My friend messaged me on a communicator (gg) and he said "Forget the president. Our military geniuses died. We're screwed"

Well, I said already - many of highest ranking officers died in that crash.

We're screwed for next weeks indeed.

Uhm, is Poland exceptionally reliant on its military?

It didn't protect it very well 71 years ago...

A) Our allies were busy with tossing pamphlets and notes at Germany.
B) We didn't had real army. I mean, few small battleships, old, WWI weaponry. Anyway, most of newly-produced arms got sold to the West so we could pay the debts and get out from crisis.
C) Try to protect your country on two different fronts. Backstabbing done by Russians on 17th September was clear sign of the defeat for us, so there :P

I know, I know, it was a fairly useless comment.

Still, unless your country is at war, the loss of all those high-ranking officers is tragic, but not country-crippling, I would say.

(Also, the thread's title strangely reminds me of the beginning of this song.)

President and his wife. All of our head military generals.
President of Polish National bank. Katyn's tragedy families. Ombudsman for Citizen Rights. Many politicians from our government. Senators. All people connected with russian/polish culture and history of military. All in this one plane.

It's the biggest tragedy, not only in Poland, but possibly in the whole world, in which the Elite Intelligence died in a catastrophe. Ironically, same happened in Katyn, 70 years ago, like you already said.
The thing is, these people were one of a kind. The persons, their history, their minds. It's a really sad day.

Actually it a foolish action by the pilot to land in such foggy conditions, when the airport isn't modernized enough to have equipment to help planes land.

The jokes are too soon, guys. :P

Ah, I was under the impression that 'only' the president and high-ranking militaries died in the crash.

Having a fair portion of a country's head eliminated is a serious blow.

Quote from: New York Times
Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski – one of the highest-ranking Polish leaders not on board the plane...
The Foreign Minister? Really?
Quote
Among those on board, according to the Web site of the newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza, were Mr. Kaczynski; his wife, Maria; former Polish president-in-exile Ryszard Kaczorowski; the deputy speaker of Poland’s parliament, Jerzy Szmajdzinski; the head of the president’s chancellery, Wladyslaw Stasiak; the head of the National Security Bureau, Aleksander Szczyglo; the deputy minister of foreign affairs, Andrzej Kremer; the chief of the general staff of the Polish army, Franciszek Gagor; the president of Poland’s national bank, Slawomir Skrzypek; the commissioner for civil rights protection, Janusz Kochanowski; the heads of all of Poland’s armed forces; and dozens of members of parliament.
That fucking sucks. My condolences.

I know. It's hard to focus now, so many important people, some real authorities whom I respected.

Foreign Minister is under our Prime Minister's command, so he stayed with him.
