Natural Night Vision & Other Assorted Oddities
« on: April 10, 2010, 01:52:14 am »

Hi Guys.

So... my eyes are pretty wierd. I have really great night vision. It's odd because I have horrible eyesight, yet turn off the lights and I can read a book word for word just from moonlight. Funny though, cause I read a book about some random criminals. What they did was they had eye patches over their left eye. they wore it forever - some for so long that they developed cabbage ear on their right ear. Basically, people laughed at them. Then one night they turned shit upside down - they cut the power to a rich dude's country house, and systematically robbed nearly every single thing worth considerable money.

Ya see, what they did was that their left eye became so accustomed to the darkness, that they developed natural night vision in their left eye. So when they cut the power to the guys house, it was pitch black. They then flipped their eye patch over to their RIGHT eye... and voila - night vision!

So yah. The only thing I've found pretty good about my night sight is that I never stub my toes on the coffee table. :P

Anybody else have some oddity about them? Like webbed feet or six toes? (cause thats bloody awesome) Feel free if you got something to say on this topic. It's what GD is for.

I can make my shoulder blades stick out several inches from my back, enough to fit my flattened hand under them.  Apparently this is weird.  I didn't think anything of it until someone noticed.  It happens when I hunch forward, like when I'm cold or something.

Where is your third one?

Bruce Lee could do that!

I have two tops and a bottom. From what the dentist said, most people have four. I should probably get them yanked anyway.

Mythbusters had a section that claimed pirates may have used eyepatches for the same reason.

I had a friend who had really deep shoulder blades. Hopefully the limberness may help against back pain in the future.

Sorta, it's not quite that kind of heterochromia.

You know how people can make a roll of their tongue? I can do that, only upside down. I've still to find someone else who can do it and believe me, I've been trying to find out, it's a real fun thing to show to people I've just met.

The weirdest part is, I just can't understand how anyone can roll their tongue the "right" way. Me trying it looks exactly like other people trying to do it my way.

I guess my tongue muscles are upside down or something.

Those people that can make their tongue look like a starfish or something are really something. I can't even comprehend how they do that.

My irises change color with the seasons--brown in the winter, green in the summer.

I can dislocate my thumbs at will.

I have a pectis excavatum (in layman's terms, my rib cage curves in rather than out), which means my heart is about two inches out of place. If I ever come back as a vampire, I'm going to rock because no one will be staking me in the right place.

Also, the bottom of the rib cage flares out rather than curving in. This means I can actually grab my rib cage and reach inside it an inch or two.

All this freakshow shit (except the eyes) is due to having some degree of Marfan syndrome.

Oh, and my 3-year old daughter has 10.5 toes. Specifically, the second toe on one foot has two toenails, the second of which hides under the big toe, so we didn't notice it until she was about two weeks old. We left it as is -- good icebreaker for when she's older.

Not much; I have pretty good natural flexibility. I was doing a yoga class at my gym and the yoga teacher was amazed by how flexible I was.

I can touch both the tip of my nose and the tip of my chin with my tongue.

My other superpower is looking malnourished even when I'm at a normal weight, I guess.  I inherited my father's light bone structure, which has given me rather small hands (9 in. from base of palm to end of middle finger, if I remember correctly).

I seem to be able to pop my hips out of the socket a little.

Oh, and I was always the least flexible kid in gym class.

Instant light adaption. Apparantly, and we had this tested in my science class with the hi-speed webcam, my eyes dilate extremely fast, and when I could see my teacher heading for the light switch, they pre-dilated. Basically, bitches don't know bout my dilation.

I have this, with a sort of "pupil" bleed effect of brown surrounded by blue. Also, the blue isn't even a single shade. =(

And I have this, for a fat man at least. I can contort myself into any sort of shape, including licking my elbow. But that requires me to shove my arm against something, so I don't think that counts.

Can anyone else twist their legs around 180 degrees and walk, too? This seems to shock people, when I do it.
