I modded a new metal (with the [ITEMS_WEAPON] tag) and two new weapons. Now, they don't appear in the metalsmith's forge menu, so i suppose that i must create a reaction.

What is the forge/magma forge name in the Raws?

I've already relocated the brain, but it still dies after losing its head.

Help.
either remove [HEAD] from head BP or [NOTHOUGHT] I believe.

It's the [HEAD] tag.  Creatures die when a bodypart with the HEAD, UPERBODY, or LOWERBODY tag is severed from the body, even if the bodypart didn't contain any important organs.  It's part of making sure inorganic creatures like colossi and mud men can be killed.

You can't add reactions to the forge.  But you shouldn't need to.  Did you remember to add the new weapons to the entities list of permitted weapons?

That was the first thing I tried but that cause the eyes and ears and such to become unused due to not being able to find a head to attach to.

Yeah, an unavoidable side effect.  You have to make your own, and us CON:HD (or whatever) instead of CONTYPE:HEAD.

Long story short:

I want to give a creature claws and teeth as steel. I have done lots of things and messed around with the material properties and things like that. My first though was throwing in a [USE_MATERIAL_TEMPLATE:NAIL:INORGANIC:STEEL] instead of the default material template tag for nails. That didn't work, so I think it might be easier to just define it using tags like these (and then ditto for teeth):

I'm not really sure what to do at this point. If you could help that would be great. I'd prefer to not mess around with the tissue_template_default files or any other of the template files; since this is part of a bigger mod and ease of install is important to me.

The problem with the second one is that it should be

[MATERIAL:NAIL] No template
    Rest of tags go here.

You could also just instert, at the bottom of any creature raw:
[SELECT_MATERIAL:NAIL]
Followed by tags that modify the materials properties however you want.
For example [MAX_EDGE:27500] to increase the sharpness.

Ive been having some issues with skin colours, I keep on getting error messages like this

I think it's not finding any HAIR.  Are you sure you added it?  What does the rest of the creature's raws look like?

Are you trying to set the color of the creature's skin, hair, or feathers?

I just tested (in the arena) your posted creature in my copy of DF, and got no error messages.  I placed a couple of garindals and checked the colors of their feathers and they seem to be correct.

By "crashing" do you mean crashes-to-desktop?  Because a problem with the color modifiers wouldn't do that.

I'm noticing that you have a LOT of castes in the lawful_good creature.  This is not, in itself, a problem.  However, you ALSO seem to have a lot of redundant [BODY_DETAIL_PLAN:STANDARD_MATERIALS] and STANDARD_TISSUES calls. Remember that materials and tissues are global to the creature, so you don't need any more than one instance of those tags per creature.  When I was making the illithids (oh they of the 16+ castes...), I also had problems with crashes to desktop, and weeding out the redundant materials calls fixed the problem.  Remember that USE_MATERIAL_TEMPLATE/TISSUE_TEMPLATE tags also create new materials and tissues, and should also be edited down to one per creature.  These tags are used to make BLOOD, claws, etc.

I advise putting the material and tissue creation tags at the top of the file, above the first caste.

Give this a shot.  It worked in arena mode, again, and the feathers/hair etc seem to work.  No error messages.

I'd advise you to fix the tabbing on the first two entries, I got partway through the dwarf entry before I stopped fixing the tabs.  I found one mistake in the human entry, you had SELECT_CASTE:HUMAN_MALE instead of SELECT_ADDITIONAL_CASTE.
