How would one make a metal that can only be found deep underground and is not brought in by traders? I would like to have my own personal brand of !!fun!!

the [DEEP_SPECIAL] tag makes it so traders will not bring it in for trade I believe.

Custom workshop:

I know it's about the menu in which it will appear. What are coordinates for Furnaces/Kilns menu? 2:1?

I believe they are 2:2 as well. They work in the middle right? (Last I remember they do)

No, that's the spot where the dwarf stands. 2:2 is the middle of a 3x3 workshop. 2:1 would be the middle row on the left-hand side, 3:2 would be the middle column on the bottom row, etc.

To get it to show up in the Furnaces menu use BUILDING_FURNACE instead of BUILDING_WORKSHOP.

EDIT: Something more.

There are those lines at the very bottom of every custom, and I'm pretty sure it's about what materials are used in building.

How to make building need a fire-safe mechanism and pipe section?

I see nothing like "SAND" without other stuff in string dump...

My wild guess would be

[REAGENT:B:1:POWDER_MISC:NONE:INORGANIC:SAND_YELLOW], but I am not sure if POWDER_MISC is applicable here and is it possible at all to take the sand out of the bag for a reaction.

I believe at the present moment taking items out of containers isn't happening, unless someone has a proven and working reaction. (That doesn't use the container and either keeps or discards the container)

I asked Toady about it, and Lye is the only thing that the game knows how to look for at this point. So, sadly, sticking stuff in containers and getting it later for other reactions doesn't seem to be an option.
