Wait, I just had a look at the wiki for whales, and I saw this:
[CHILD:1]
So that means whales stop being childs after one year?

I sense a potential whale breeding program ahead...

Yes, that's right! You too can breed whales in the confined area about the size of a bedroom! There's no logical falsity, just dwarf logic!

Fine, I shall do something FOR MYSELF for once! But don't expect me to do my own laundry too, for god sake.

... I would never in my life touch the laundry of someone who is learning to butcher whales.

I mean. It'd be more like washing your clothes away from the blubber pile!
You might find it worth it, actually...if there happens to be any vomit on his clothes, you can sell it to a perfume company :P Ambergris is rather pricey ;)

There are three things I know about dwarves:
1. They've got beards. Even the women.
2. They're short. Especially the women.
3. They're Scottish.

That'd be a really good use for the "extract from live fish" task at the fishery. 1 whale yields 10 ambergris which can be changed into perfume at an alchemist's lab. I just hope dwarves don't try to drink the stuff.

When Dwarf Fortress gives you lemons, you mod them to have [DAMBLOCK:80][FLIER][FIREBREATH].

Since perfume typically has alcohol in it, I would not put it past them. They're dwarves, after all.

So is anyone else planning on flooding a small area and creating a whale farm?

This guy gets it, the problem with the child torture dungeon is that they weren't set on fire first.

This raises several questions...
  • How much meat do whale calves yield?
  • Can you air drown whales?
  • If so, can they survive in 4/7 water? In fresh water? (Apparently so, but we need to know... For science!)
  • If you drop a whale from a 100 z-level tall tower, does it ask the Earth if it will be friends with him before he hits the ground?

Do you have a fishery operation set up?  Perhaps whales are tagged as normal fish now?

How much are whale bones worth? You may get the same value from the quantity of whale crafts as you would from the quality of mermaid crafts.

Yikes, the Orcs have a nasty language.  Traditional foreplay would be right out for them; how would they ever "say my name" for one another?  No wonder Ocrs are always so bloodthirsty and violent, they're getting sub-par action.

If he is on a beach, water tends to move constantly there. Combined with the fact that water flows faster now, the whales where probably beached and possibly even smashed on a cliff.
