SUSPENDED LAVA THRONE ROOM CHALLENGE
« on: April 09, 2010, 07:47:44 pm »

SUSPENDED LAVA THRONE ROOM CHALLENGE

RULES:

1. Create an elegant throne room suspended above lava.  Make it as fancy as you want.  Mechanisms are a plus, but not required.  The throne room doesn't need to "belong" or be assigned to anybody.
2. NO getting rid of cavern layers in between.
3. You may turn off sieges (doesn't constitute modding).
4. There are two versions of the contest.  Vanilla DF and Modded.  Choose what is best for you, but remember rule #2.

There are still plenty of issues that we're aware of, but that shouldn't stop you from giving it a good try!

Deadline for all entries is May 31!
There will be a prize, a very, very small prize.
Winners will be decided by community vote.

All questions may be addressed to Rainseeker or ToadyOne in this thread.

Have at it, and enjoy!

EDIT:

By "suspended" I mean to have at least one layer with at least one pillar-like structure either carved or built with any material.  This pillar (or pillars) will be holding the throne room to the magma cave layer's "ceiling."  The throne room should somehow have access to the other parts of your fortress, i.e. stairs, bridges, etc.

I think they mean you actually have to build it over the magma, not carve it out on the surface, build a 50 z level shaft down to the lava, and call it a lava throne room.

Oh, and count me in. Its a shame visual fortress won't be updated to view the rooms for this one...

Yes, that means not disabling it in world gen params.

Also see the additional rule posted above.

Hmm, sounds fun! I shall try my best!

Does it still count if my army of willing morons dwarfs manage to construct a great stone pillar through the magma and construct on top of that?

I'm in, and I'll try to do it on the same map used in the DFM3 Challenge.

I don't know how you would do that, but if you could manage that would be okay.  Keep in mind that there are "critters" in the magma, and that the throne room needs to connect to the rest of your fortress somehow.  :)

Sounds like fun.  I'm not going to start a whole new fortress just for this challenge but if I happen to come across any magma I'll be sure to sign up.

This'll give me something to do in Dwarf Fortress. Count me in.
