Ok. My Compact Clown Crushinator went off without a hitch and for the loss of a single dwarf (Who inexplicably decided to charge them instead of running away before I let rip) I managed to crush 103 clowns. 7 clowns escaped and fled back into the underworld, but they only managed this because they appeared to just be hanging around doing nothing, and I had waited long enough already.

Unfortunately, I managed to get the bug where parts of the clownite are mysteriously impossible for dwarves to path over. I figured something was suss when trying to pave over a stairwell in there gave a minimum distance to my nearest stone as anything between -11,000 tiles and -20,000 tiles.

I'd try a revert to an old save and re-breach and try to kill them all again, but I had to wait for an hour and a half to let them all filter into my trap at under a half frame per second. Also, I don't think it's going to let me try and get into the hidden fun stuff proper that way. Which is a shame because I really wanted to try and harvest the new and improved clownite and build my throne room out of it. I'll look around for another route down, and if I can't find one I guess I'll have to make do with gold and clownite 1.0

I don't believe in a standing army. I believe in cruel and unusual architecture.
May I sigquote you on that?
Go ahead :D

Have you tried quiting and re-loading your save? I've heard that usually cures pathing problems.

I think that, as long as there is magma underneath and to the sides, anything will do

I may need another clarification on the specific rules...

Four times now. Each time I do, any additional paths dug are made inaccessable. I found a similar issue on the bugtracker and tacked my save onto that as well, so all good. Except I cant get at very much of my precious clownite :(

There is a way to mine it through a bug (Channeling). If I can't use it for anything, I'll just have it sitting there in rock form.

Unfortunately I don't have a second pillar, so I might have to try and make my own. Has anyone tried dropping a column of living stone into the magma sea yet?

Natural stone?  Yes.  It vanishes.

Magma also sets diamonds on fire.

Diamonds are carbon. Carbon burns.

Diamonds are carbon. Carbon burns.

Yes, though usually not without a bath of liquid oxygen.

It's much easier to make charcoal dust explode, I guess.

Ohh! Ohh!!!
BOUNUS CHALLANGE: Make a magma-safe diamond bin and dump it in magma; and do something "cool" with the smoke.
MEGABONUS: use large and/or home-cut diamonds

(I was gunna have burning lignite bin "incense burners"; but now I just know they gotta be diamond-powered.)

Surface area to volume ratio.

I had a science teacher who put flour and sawdust into a coffee can along with a lit candle.  Put the lid on.  Then take a hose attached to a hole in the bottom of the can and blow into it (stirring up the small particulates) which caused the lid to blow off from the explosion.  That demonstration was the third time he put a dent in the ceiling (keep in mind, this is a California High School ceiling, it's like 12 feet high*).

*Ok, ok, maybe only 10.  You could reach the panels by standing on a desk.

Non-dairy creamer is actually the best for that sort of thing.

A la "Myth Busters."

Nono.  Not like that.  The blowing into the coffee can didn't blow the lid off, the burning powder did.

But I will admit that the creamer was cool.
