Which makes the fact of their survival all the more awesome.

Heh... Heh...  Hm...  This is sort of funny I guess.  The original post is clearly lacking several important details of American colonization either through ignorance or intention.  I mean, hell, the lack of biological warfare alone completely ruins the idea.  Either way this is nothing to get worked up about.

It would be cool if you could trade the humans or elves a bucket of pox-laden dwarfbits, though.

Tis one of the problems with the education; we are trained to appreciate and see something that isn't there. I think Freud's thoughts can be implemented here: in both Annalise of your scared psyche and how " sometimes a cigar is just a Cigar": there is no symbolism of critique behind Dwarf Fortress and there never was; just a bunch traditional dwarves working at your beck and call. Similarly much of the symbolism we encounter day to day is a fabrication of our minds trying to seek a pattern.
Death of the author, and all that. It doesn't matter whether Dwarf Fortress was intended as an attack on neo-collectivist post-structuralism or whatever, it can be interpreted as such.

Also; Ha ha, Freud. ;D

No.... just no.

Seeing something that isn't their, and referencing Freud?
I find that hilarious.

I know it's unrealistic, but I can't help but imagine little bearded babies for dwarves. In my mind, they come out of the womb fully bearded. That's how the mother carries them around, too, she just drags them around by the beard or ties it to her belt. When the father's on duty, he just ties their beards together and the baby just kind of hangs there, swinging to and fro with Urist McDaddy's movements.

But you'd expect the cure to seek the virus, not the other way around... :-\

Well that went better than expected.  He went nuts and punched a rabbit to death, then the dogs and the whole dining hall ripped him to shreds.

The flaw in your argument is the assumption that I am in any way educated.

Don't worry, dwarfguy2 - i was thinking outside it long before I started to fold those little edge bits inside to get them to slot in with the bigger flappy bit (and insert into the metaphorical whatsamajig). :P

I think you're bweing too direct. This is clearly a reference to Shakespeare's the Tempest. The fact that the Tempest was about colonization is incidental.

The goblins are Caliban, the Elves are Ariel, the Forgotten Beasts are Prospero, and the clowns are Sycorax. Players are left to have their own various noble characters, of course.

My dwarves are unhappy whiny drunks.......

So it's actually about Irish immigration to America?

(Is joking, and part Irish)

edit:  Incidentally, this gives me a great idea for naming migrant waves.  First seven use native style names, and afterwards they get names in honor of America's various waves of immigrants, in proper order.
