Right, if your in the UK you may be priviliaged enough to be able to vote (like me) if not your views are still welcome here.

We have a huge election coming up that'll quite possibly change the country we live in. Let me explain for those who don't know yet.

Labour have lost their reign as undisputed champions of the parliment. This current party was brought into power through Tony Blair reformist, and quite awesome, New Labour. After several long years of Thatcherism, then Majorism, Britain was quite frankly a massive shitehole of repetitive recessions and going nowhere fast. New Labour made the working man feel important again. They establish a lot of things we take for granted today, probably the most important would be national minimum wage and the devolution of power to Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales.

Ok, so in recent years what has happened? Well in short Tony Blair became a brown noser to George W. Bush and passed a bunch of economice measures that started to cripple the country. This contributed towards the decline in Labour support at the polls.

What makes this election so special? Well the people now have for the first time in a very very long time the ability to choose a government that can change the country for good. 

I'm stuck who to vote for, all 3 leading parties have their pro's and con's and I'm not sure who would be best fitting for the job, on the left we have Labour's "Continue with what you know", but Gordon Brown is really really not helping anything (and they just voted in the DEB). On the right we the Conservatives who have made great strides to become more likable, but they have a history of only wanting to appeal to the people in charge and themselves. Not to mention they're still vaguely pro-christian/anti-gay. And then theres the Liberal Democrats, who quite frankly seem the best choice to vote IMHO, they're looking for a more socialist country and have a great wealth advisors to sort out the economy problems.

My issues with Labour is that they're too stale now. Sticking with the old mostly. The conservatives have a terrible reputation in Scotland (they tried to abolish trade unions which led to riots here in my city) and I don't think they've changed at all. And the Liberal Democrats have to little a voice, I'd feel it was a waste vote and I'd get nothing done by voting for them.

So, what do you guys think of this up and coming election?

I'll be voting Lib dem. They have plans to reform the election process, which is much needed. Plus they opposed the DEB which is a huge plus for me.

Though if they do win, and manage to cock it up, or squirm out of their pre-election promises and ideals, I'll have officially lost all faith in our political system.

I still can't decide if I like the Parliament system more or less than the US system. The British system seems more prone to chaos, although that could be just because crazy countries like Italy have their government all apart constantly because they're crazy

I think the UK and Australia have a good balance between the sort of institutionalized chaos of Italy or Israel, and the completely institutionalized gridlock of the US two-party system. Not that you're likely to ever see a LibDem Prime Minister, but the presence of a legit third party, and a handful of regional parties who can still get representation (like the Scottish Nationalists, Plaid Cymru, Sinn Fein, etc.) helps to keep the system somewhat fluid. Labour can't go too far right, or the more liberal portion of its base will defect to the LibDems. They can't go too far left, or they'll lose people to the Tories. The Tories can't go too far right, or they'll lose people to Labour, and if they go too far left....I dunno, the BNP?

Plus they have Question Time, which is the best thing ever.

Also, I'm to far south to vote in the General Elections, but... Well, the Lib Dems have been he least twatish party for a long time, simply because they're the middle road party.

But they'll never win, simply because the majority of people are twats, with ill-informed and ignorant views of most topics. There was a woman on BBC Breakfast who was complaining about not knowing who to vote for because she didn't know enough about each party. It honestly hadn't occured to her to get up off her arse and research them.

I know Labour is supposed to be more liberal than the Liberal Democrats, but to this American it has appeared rather ass backwards lately.

I can't really say much except it's way more interesting to watch the House of Commons go at each other on C-span than it is to watch the US House or Senate. The MPs actually go after each other on the floor and have their team shouting support or openly booing/hissing at the opposition instead of namby-pamby making nice and then talking behind people's backs.

Sadly, I respect Nick Clegg's wishy-washy half arsed left wing policies than New Labour's current right wing policies. But, I'm still voting Labour, because otherwise the Tories will win and OH GOD THAT WOULD BE FUCKING HORRIBLE.

The Tories are still stuck in the eighties, no matter what crappy public rallies they go to and make arses out of themselves during and no matter if Cameron exploits his son's death to get pity votes.

i hate the first past the post system as it truns any small wining seats in to a sizeable representation.

Along with a completely awesome image of a gigantic sword fight between the three major party leaders. Nick Griffin lies decapitated in the corner, with the green party leader is in pieces strewn around the arenas' floor. Countless independent candidates lie defeated and headless, barely surviving twenty minutes.
