Maybe, since Toady One announced he already has a large number of bugs fixed for a new release, DFG will come out after this next release is out, simply to save Mike Mayday time converting the data from 31.18 to 31.19 and THEN from 31.19 to 31.20?

That's only a guess though. I'm super-eager nonetheless: I like the repack anallyst posted but still would like the official release of DFG.

Is it normal in the .18 release for all the menus to be misaligned and in a very small/thin font? I haven't changed anything, just literally unzipped the files and loaded it up. The font's actually not too bad, I just haven't played DF in quite a long time so I'm unaware of how much the Mayday pack has evolved (it's still my favourite, though).

Yeah, that's normal- truetype support is not fully implemented yet. If it bothers you, you can turn truetype off in the init (though I forget which one).

The alignment issues will be there with or without truetype font.

What you can do, though, is use a different font.
I'm using a bolder one in my graphics set, and it looks pretty good.

But yeah, just using tile-based lettering still works fine as well.

What is the ultimate goal of TrueType support, anyway? FPS gain? It seems a pain to find a font that's got just the right thickness to the characters that also includes all the special characters used in DF's text.

Eh, I guess a bit of a stupid question. The primary benefit would presumably be for tilesets that replace special characters with icons, resulting in text that should be a character but is instead an icon.

I think the point is to decouple the tiles from the text entirely so you can have text and tilesets without mixing.

Maybe _YOU_ check every 2-6 days. Me personally, my Chrome taskbar includes a folder of all links I want to quickly check which don't have RSS feeds. The May Green site is in that bookmark, hence, it gets checked several times a day =P
