Starting fortresses are the new retirement homes?
« on: April 08, 2010, 09:25:50 pm »

I don't have a single one of my starting dwarfs below 60.  Is this normal?  Are they all going to be too old to operate properly?

I think 60 is kinda young for a dwarf.
Maybe middle-aged compared to humans.

I don't know. I seem to remember world gen starting to cull them at around 80.  I may be wrong though.

Dwarfs usey live up to about 150, so its a little over a third of there lives, young enough to be exploring, yet old enough to be skilled and disciplined.

That's the percentage of megabeasts if I'm not mistaken.  ;)
The age limit is seen in the raws.

The age limit is 150:170 if I'm not mistaken.
I believe Toady mentioned in one of the Talks that they're generated at about half their life expectancy.
So there you go.

Ah, I suppose I was mistaken.  This will take some getting used to.

I just realized something a little strange.  Out of this entire game full of oddities, the hardest thing to wrap my mind around is the 80=middle age part...

Huh, and here I am thinking that's awfully young for a dwarf. Tolkien has conditioned me to think of them having longer lifespans than that.

I think the dwarves would be lucky to live even 4 years in my fortresses...

Thanks to D&D, I'm used to dwarves living upwards of 300 years. Of course, by that time, they're too crotchety for the other races to deal with.

Ummm....other races have trouble dealing with D&D dwarves...?

You have seen what ha[[ens to other races who deal with DF dwarves, haven't you?

They get used as bait to lure out the ambushes and then dropped down a huge shaft so that people can steal their socks.
