Can we no longer search for things like magma pipes and lakes?  Underground rivers and etc?  I don't see the options at all, just flux, drainage, rain, and other useless stuff (well, maybe not flux...).  None of the fun stuff is able to be searched for any more it seems?

Every single area on the map now has 2-3 levels of cave systems, with seemingly at least one having an underground lake/ocean. Below this there is usually an undergrond magma lake that spans the entire.. well, earth. in other words, if you embark on a 3*3 (some bugs with 2*2's for now) or larger your pretty much 100% guarenteed to get an infinite underground water and magma supply. Anywhere. So the only remaining options on the site finder are the only wants you'd really want anyway.

Well, not really.

I like playing on peninsulas (mostly because it simplifies surface defence to only one side of map) and on river forks (basically the same idea; i like it when three sides of surface fortress are moated by natural river.)

Sadly, You just can not find such places with search.

Yes, but having to find one such place is much easier than having to find one such place with magama, chasam and underground pool.

how do one get magma up?

Iron or steel pumps. Lots of them.
