How do I get my recordkeeper to do his job?

I've never had a problem with bookkeeping before, but since I started playing the new version I've never yet seen my recordkeeper actually keep any records.  He always does other labors instead, and if I turn off all his other labors, he idles.  I assigned him in the nobles screen, I gave him an assigned seat in my dining hall, he's uninjured, he's happy - what else, if anything, do I need to do?

Perhaps setting him to count everything accurate.
"s" in the nobles screen.
