Jeweler and Encrusting Question [.31]

Is there a way to encrust weapons with gems? I made a really nice mace, and had a bunch of sapphires lying around so I figured I'd bump up the value until I could trade it for an entire caravan...

... But I only get the option to encrust furniture, ammunition and finished goods. Does the mace count as a finished good? Also, the hotkeys for the encrusting menu aren't working for me, for some reason.  ???

Relocate the mace to a weapons stockpile near the jeweler's shop and tell it to encrust finished goods.

Did both that and made a cut gems stockpile beside it; none of the hotkeys are working inside the jeweler's workshop still.

Edit: It probably just has something to do with the fact that the weapon in question isn't normally allowed; I made Platinum and Gold available for weapons and armour, for ceremonial stuff. :(

Do you have cut sapphires? IIRC, it doesn't let you give an encrust order until you have at least 1 small gemstone of the type you're trying to give an encrust order for, at least in 40d. I'd be very surprised if it was different now.

Also, I'm pretty sure that you can't actually encrust weapons. I'm pretty sure the only decorations weapons take are metal studs.

I've got half a dozen of each sapphire and star sapphire. Hm. That's a little disappointing, actually. I wanted to pimp this mace out something special.
