How long do Forgotten Beasts stay still for?
« on: April 07, 2010, 09:53:16 pm »

I have a forgotten Beast named Rotik. He is currently guarding my tomb against all types of nasties.
The only downside is that he has been guarding the tomb for the last few years. Without moving, at all. And my dwarves are to scared to go put anything in the tomb of my late planter.
How long am I expected to wait for him to leave?

He's a no-nonsense type of forgotten beast, obviously, that takes his job of guarding the tomb quite seriously.

I've had 4 now. One rampaged and left with no loss of life. 3 have come and go from the fringes. They didn't stay long.

If they left via the fringes, they have the power to come back at any time.when or if is the question.

Yup. Any time. The four I had were all different, so I'm getting a kick out of them showing up. I wish they would stay longer, but I'm not taking down any walls soon.

you know, you could use that as a punishment/rite of passage for your dwarfs.spend a night outside the walls, and if you dont get eaten by the beasts you are worthy.

Hmm just kill it, not like that they're that strong. The one that came to my fort only killed a single recruit before getting killed and when you do you'll get 200+ meat(well it will depend on what kind of beast it is). Also the titans are mega wimps just throw a few recruits at them and they fold like a house of cards.

This is a masterful image of your FPS and the HFS. The HFS is committing a depraved act on your FPS.

I don't know. I had a feathered serpent swimming around some flooded caverns for years, never attacking or nothing, just swimming around.

FUCKING QUETZALCOATL IN MY CAVERNS!

I had a beast show up and fly into my fortress, where he proceeded to get slaughtered by a dog.

How fast can you build a ballista and point it at the tomb?

Of course, that depends on whether or not ballista bolts are still near-instakill.

That would be like playing Russian Roulette, in my place. My first beast just went around destroying doors and workshops and left all the dwarfs alone.

My forgotten beast was ripped to shreds by a novice wrestler. Some are made of goo and are totally unbeatable.

Check that it's corporeal, then go at 'er with a few axedwarves. There's no need to panic. And if they all die, well, this is dwarf fortress

I've had 3 forgotten beasts, enough to stop being afraid of anything that I don't notice as being made of an unkillable material.

A skinless frog with wings that spat ice was the first one, flew up my shaft, knocked down some windmills and then engaged 2 wrestlers until an axedorf turned up and hacked it to bits.

Then a flying snail made of feathers came, that was knocked out by the captain of the guard with a silver mace.

Third a giant lizard with mandibles, broke 2 floodgates (that would have been a system of releasing lava into the tunnels leading to the underworld as a last resort, glad I hadn't connected them yet or I'd have had a problem). 2 axe dwarves dealt with him.

Don't think any of them have caused a casualty yet, frog might have killed an untrained wrestler at most.
